Description

During my practicing time at Paddington Pharmacy, I have experienced a variety of situations. There is an event that impressed me that the pharmacist had to applied resource to figure out the most appropriate treatment for the customer. From my point of view, this situation considerably challenging but also was a valuable adventure to observe.

The customer visited the pharmacy and demonstrated that his son had a skin rash on the back and front of the body. He was quite worried about his son situation since he supposed that is something serious. From my perspective, that is a tricky query because rashes could be originated from many problems. Thus, I thought the customer should take his son to General Practitioner and Dermatologist. Based on the customer's information, the pharmacist asked him if his child has taken or used any medicines including prescription and non-prescription in recent days. After serious consideration, the customer stated that the doctor gave his son amoxicillin to treat sore throat. At the same time, he realized that rash appeared after 2 or 3 days his son took medicine. The pharmacist also asked his son's prescription to ensure find out the precise reason. The pharmacist divined that the child allergic to amoxicillin and he require to check resource for further information. The pharmacist used some resources that related to rash including APF, MIMS and AMH Children's Dosing Companion to search for more information. These sources affirmed that rash is one of the adverse effects of amoxicillin. Besides, it can cause some symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, gastric upset which depends on the level of the drug reaction. After taking note of this evidence, the pharmacist came back to discuss with the customer. He asked some further questions to ensure that the child only had a rash. He told that to prevent further serious influence, the child should stop using the medicine. Moreover, the recommendation is to take the

child to his General Practitioner to adjust new therapy for him. To control the rash condition, the pharmacist administers the cream for the child. Finally, the customer left with the peace of mind and satisfaction. Later, the pharmacist told me that the role of pharmacist not only dispensing medicine but also need to know how to use the resource flexibility. Because no one was able to memorize all of the adverse effects of medicines.

After a short time observing and from the instruction of the pharmacist, I realized many crucial points. Firstly, being a pharmacist, you need to calm down and have a thoughtful consideration in every situation. Furthermore, using resource is one of the most necessary skills in the practical. If the circumstance is serious, the pharmacist should advise the patient to consult with General Practitioner. As a pharmacy student, I have learned how to use resources such as APF and MIMS that certainly support me a lot in the practice situation in the future. I also believe that if I meet a similar situation, I could handle it properly. Related to NCS, I figured out that "Education and Research" will advance my knowledge toward becoming a competent professional in the equivalent situation....
