Description

Journal entry: Professional Careers Networking Event 2021 1.

2. The networking event was a didactic experience for me. It allowed to understand what managers and industry professionals look for when attending networking events and engaging with students. Overall, I was really thankful that this event was a part of the curriculum for 20091, and it helped re-affirm some of the habits that I currently have and encouraged me to reflect on my past choices in my career, and additionally it encouraged me to reevaluate my current career plan.

3. Similarly, to what I mentioned after completing my elevator pitch, the Professional Careers Networking encouraged me to reflect on my conduct at networking events, and it gave me valuable advice. I also encouraged me to visualised what I want my career to look like in 1 years and make a career plan that would facility the path towards my 10 year career goal of being an entrepreneur. Since the event, I have registered for 2 networking events that are happening in May and joined a social group at university in order to expand my networking skills and build a strong network around me.

I leant so many valuable pieces of information, my favourite segment that was led by Nikki Heald. I do find some aspects networking challenging and I plan to use the tips she gave such as approaching the group that looks the friendliest/rowdy looking. She also advised us that we should always act n our best behaviour, because many hiring managers and industry professionals pay attention to people’s conduct and behaviour at these kind of events. I should always be present myself In the way I want to be perceived. Another piece of advice that I plan on implementing was also stated by Nikki Heald and repeated by Amy, was about the value of having multiple mentors, from a wise range if backgrounds. Currently I have 1 mentor, and since hearing this advice I’ve thought about the kind of qualities and traits that I would want in a second mentor. 4. In week 5 there was a focus on employability skills and attributes, and that week related the most to the learnings I made from this event. So far, week 5 was my favourite content week because I want to increase my employability, and it gave solid tips that could help me increase my network and investing in my network of people....
