Dougy Essay Final Draft In the novel, “Dougy” by James Moloney the town and community and truly destroyed by a combination of factors. ‘Dougy ‘is a great dramaaction novel showing the boy, Dougy and his family living in a racial town, his sister is a champ sprinter, she already shows a factor of jealousy in between the blacks and whites, also the war between them shows how much people don’t like each other for their skin type, with Dougy’s eldest brother, Raymond also a footy star, is another struck of the factors in the town. Johnny warren is pretty much the one who is making the racial issues grow; he has a sick mind and doesn’t care about anyone but himself. They have big impacts on the town and are only the beginning of the factors. The main characters of the book hold some of the big factors destroying the town. Gracey, the older sister of Dougy is a state champion in running, proving that any person if anyhow their different can do anything, but like the whites holding their jealousy in, but also say something not-worthy, “Well you’re the second amateur I lost to in a row, said Tracey”, this shows that she is saying she lost to some Aborigine, Raymond also has his ability to play footy very well, but it’s the same thing, it strike’s of him wanting to be punched in the face of not being liked, “You don’t have to be an Aborigine the white fellas want you to be, but it all comes down to the black and white war. The destruction in the community is due to the black and white war, the black and whites have been at war from when Australia first got his name, on the streets you could still see people making fun of others for their skin, like in the book you could see that white kids were bullying the black kids constantly and even grown ups bullied little black kids, “ Shut up and say out’ said the angry bloke and swore and called them black nohopers, but this affects the entire book trying to tell kids they should stop the racial acts and not act like these blokes “And he let’s us blacks in for a drink if there are no white fellas around, their usually in a big group’, so lets get into the leader of this, “Johnny Warren”. The community issues involve Johnny Warren snooping around is the very basic of the racist man. Johnny is a person who holds a great deal of racism in himself, he has been ‘Friends’ with Dougy and his family , but his mum never liked him from the start “Mum always screamed at Johnny Warren sitting near me. His quotes have been very powerful at time, like

he was trying to shoot his friend and his friends “I’m going to shoot all you blacks”. He has made people go against themselves, family and friends and he was an important person of all the factors destroying the town and community. All of the combination of factors is all true with factors of jealousy, a war and a dirty man. These all show that in the novel, ‘Dougy’ by James Moloney the town and community are destroyed by a combination of factors. From Gracey who has gotten the jealousy from being a champion in sprinting and being a State Champion, the reputation and constant bad behavior between the black and the whites and finally a man that is called Johnny Warren holds a bad reputation of doing illegal stuff and the racial acts, he has caused with proves that the novel ‘Dougy’ is novel about a boy who lives in racism and is all transformed into destruction of the town and community, all of from these factors.
