Introduction to the Microscope EXERCISE 1: VIRTUAL MICROSCOPE Post-Lab Questions 1. What is the first step normally taken when you look through the ocular lenses? The first step taken is when you look through the ocular lenses will be to adjust the oculars until the two circles are turned into one.

2. What does it mean that the image is inverted when you look through the ocular lenses? This means that we see the real image through an inverted image. The real image is already inverted to the object you are viewing.

3. What is the difference between the coarse adjustment knob and the fine adjustment knob? When is it appropriate to use them? The difference between the course adjustment and the fine adjustment knobs is, the course adjustment is used to move the stage up and down to view and object in focus. The fine adjustment is used to view an image in sharp forms and allows you to view more of the object.

4. What new details are you able to see on the slide when the magnification is increased to 10x that you could not see at 4x? What about 40x? The 4x view is only going to show the inner side of the slide, allowing us to view more. The 40x is going to show the inside view of a slide, showing us the hidden and more defined details.
