Description

Shannon Carpenter ECE-300 Meal Plan

My meal plan was designed for children aged 25 to 35 months of age. Portion size was gathered from a program called healthy children. This program is supported by the American academy of pediatrics. While their energy output is relatively small and require smaller portions than older children I kept in mind to incorporate lots of different foods and textures. Making sure the food selected would appeal to this age group. Also suggested by the American academy of pediatrics is to introduce a wide variety of food in different forms. For example, one day offer cooked broccoli and a couple days later then offer uncooked broccoli with a veggie dip. This allows children to explore their own likes and dislikes while encouraging them to sample new foods. Additionally, this meal plan was formulated with the help of a nutritional algorithm to ensure optimal nutrition. Accommodations were made in the meal plan for picky eaters; they have two lunch substitutes available each day. Children with lactose sensitivity will be offered soy milk and cheese. Children with nut or food allergies will be protected by having separated prep areas while making these students meals. Water is available to students all day. Lastly, low sugar jelly, jam or syrup is available for breakfast and low fat ranch is available for snacks with veggie sticks.
