I. General information: Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is the easternmost country on the Southeast Asian Indochinese Peninsula.

Geographical location: located on the eastern

margin of the Indochinese peninsula and occupies about 331,211.6 square kilometers. The elongated roughly S shaped country has a north-to-south distance of 1,650 km and is about 50 km wide at the narrowest point. With a coastline of 3,260 km excluding islands, Vietnam claims 12 nautical miles. It has an exclusive economic zone of 417,663 km2 with 200 nautical miles

Location: Vietnam is located on the eastern Indochinese Peninsula between the latitudes 8° and 24°N, and the longitudes 102° and 110°E. It covers a total area of approximately 331,212 km2. The combined length of the country's land boundaries is 4,639 km and its coastline is 3,444 km long. Climate: Due to differences in latitude and the marked variety in topographical relief, Vietnam's climate tends to vary considerably for each region. Biodiversity: As the country is located within the Indomalayan realm, Vietnam is one of twenty-five countries considered to possess a uniquely high level of biodiversity. 15,986 species of flora have been identified in the country, of which 10% are endemic. Vietnam's fauna includes: 307 nematode species, 200 oligochaeta, 145 acarina, 113 springtails, 7,750 insects, 260 reptiles, and 120 amphibians. 840 birds and 310 mammals are found in Vietnam, of which 100 birds and 78 mammals are endemic.[182] Vietnam has two World Natural Heritage Sites, the Ha Long Bay and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

II. Economy of Vietnam 1. GDP (Gross Domestic Product):  The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Vietnam was worth 255 billion US dollars in 2019, according to official data from the World Bank and projections from Trading Economics. The GDP value of Vietnam represents 0.21 percent of the world economy.

 Vietnam's gross domestic product advanced by 3.82 percent year-onyear in the first quarter of 2020, following a downwardly revised 6.79 percent growth in the previous period. This was the slowest GDP growth rate since the second quarter of 2009, hampered by the coronavirus pandemic and weaker global demand. Manufacturing rose 7.12 percent, services advanced 3.27 percent and agriculture went up only 0.08 percent. The government is targetting an economic growth of 6.8% this year, but warned that it could slow to 6% if the virus effects continue in the second quarter.

 Vietnam’s Gross National Income (GNI) data was reported at 5,154,552.000 VND in Dec 2018. This records an increase from the previous number of 4,628,741.000 VND for Dec 2017.

4. Export and Import:  Vietnam recorded a constant rise in total exports during the last five years. Major increase in the value of total export commodities recorded in the last two years when Vietnam did above US$ 200000 million of export business in the world.  Our Vietnam import data reveal that the country recorded a rise in the total value in the last five years. The highest value of about US$ 250000 million registered in 2018.

 From a continental perspective, 52.8% of Vietnam exports by value were delivered to Asian countries while 21.8% were sold to North American countries. And remaining shipments were delivered in Europe, Latin America, Australia and Africa, customs data of Vietnam exports reveal. 13

 From a country perspective, Vietnam shipped goods to United States of America, followed by China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong.

 As per import data of Vietnam, country’s major import source is China from where it purchased goods worth US$ 58 billion in 2018. Vietnam’s top 10 import partners shared more than 80% of the overall value. Import statistics of Vietnam reveals the following top ten import sources of the country.
