Personal Philosophy of Education

I believe that each child learns in basic stages. I also believe that it is important to show each child how to do a new skill as opposed to just giving them the materials to figure it out. Each child learns at their own pace and in their own way and it is my responsibility to encourage each child to do their best. I plan to provide a welcoming environment that fosters learning and the development of the whole child. It is also important to work with the families and community. It is important to observe the children and develop curriculum based on the observations that I have made. In doing so, I will be able to help each child master a new skill or try something new. I will introduce technology into the classroom by having tablets and computer time built into the daily rotation, making sure that technology is not overused. In my classroom, each child will be made to feel welcome. I will greet each one by name and with a smile every day. I will ask families to create a family collage to be displayed in the classroom. I will also have books, manipulatives, and classroom décor that represents people of all races and abilities. I will use positive praise to encourage good behavior and age appropriate consequences for the more difficult behavior.

I will help meet the needs of my families by providing brochures and contact information to local businesses and agencies that may meet their needs. I will also partner with local businesses to come into the classroom to provide extra curricular activities for the children that they may not be able to experience otherwise. For example, I may bring in a paint your own pottery person into the class to do an art project or partner with a karate instructor to teach lessons one day a week. By providing these services, I will bring families to local businesses and vice a versa. In my classroom, I will include pictures, books, and manipulatives from all around the world. I will create lesson plans that celebrate our differences as well as how we are alike. My goal is to make each child feel special as they are.

In conclusion, I will strive to create a classroom that is based on educational theories. I will provide a curriculum that is based on the observations made in the classroom to meet the individual child’s needs that will allow them to grow and develop in a safe and nurturing environment, where they can have the confidence to try new things and not be afraid to fail. I will encourage the healthy use of technology based on recommendations for specific ages. I am committed to providing my families with information and services in our community to meet any extra needs. It is my goal to provide a well rounded program for the children in my classroom....
