Personal Philosophy of Education

2 My Current Philosophy on Education A teacher’s philosophy on education can be as special as they are. Each teacher has certain beliefs and methods of reasoning that make up their educating style. One might be more play based and another might be more educational. As disparate as educators might be it doesn't make one more superior than the other if the students in their classes learn and grown. My assignment today will talk about my confidence on how learning happens, the teaching style I have and how to conduct the students in class. Also, talk about my ideas on the best way to partner with families and our community and how I will establish a comprehensive learning environment. I think learning happens upon birth and proceeds into adulthood. I feel the second a child is conceived they are learning whether it be expressive gestures from their family or the smell of milk implies the time has come to eat. At the beginning of a Childs education their first teacher is their essential care giver and from them they will learn social skills, problem solve and how to socialize with others. As a teacher it is our obligation to perceive those basic stages children learn and to cultivate that for every child. Each child learns in their own specific manner and it is our duty to figure out that way. My instructional style is based on observing and regarding every child as an individual. While doing so you consider the child as an individual and not just part of a group of children in class. When observing I can perceive what every child needs in their development and can assimilate that into the classroom. This is why I feel a play-based classroom is significantly as important because I can cultivate the needs of every child in the classroom. When a child is working autonomously and learning in their own way allows for the best observations. I believe

3 that technology can be a considerable tool to assist children with learning. However, I don't feel it ought to be the primary strategy for educating students. Very much like each child learns differently every Childs behavioral needs should be guided in differently. At the point when a child has boundaries that are set and implemented from the very beginning it can cause them to have a sense of security and they realize what is right and what is wrong. Putting a child on time out or yelling at them is something that I do not believe in. I feel giving them clear alternatives and directing them to various things is useful. I believe I endeavor to establish an inviting environment for my students and their families. I acknowledge that they go through the majority of their day with me and have the right to be in a safe and loving environment. Aside from that is noticing them and posing inquiries about the thing they are doing and how they are feeling. I ensure each child is dealt with similar and is protected on their feelings. Working together with families and community is vital to me as a teacher. I feel ensuring communication is available between the teacher and families is key to the children's development. Ensuring families understand what we are doing in the classroom and how their child is progressing is a great way to create trust and relationships with families. Additionally, ensuring families have resources that can assist them is always a need and a priority. Community partnerships can be extremely important for children to extend their learning. For instance, the family worker and teachers in my Early Learn program have reached out to various or community partners and parents to create a March into Wellness event. We invite health officials, Fatherhood imitative personnel for dads, mental health representatives just to name a few. This gives the children a variety knowledge as well as their families to learn about what each program represents.

4 Establishing a comprehensive learning environment can be a battle particularly in specific areas in my city. I work in Harlem where the majority is low income households and it is very important to me to ensure each child felt represented. One of the approaches to allow children feel to included is to incorporate their cultures and lives in the classroom. We allow the children to bring in a picture of their families and hang them everywhere around the classroom. It gives them a sense that they are represented yet allows them to enlighten other children about their families. Additionally, I would ensure my play areas have dolls with different skin tones and disabilities. I would also attempt to include books with various cultures and disabilities we may have in the class. In conclusion, every child deserves a teacher that will give them their all regardless of what their philosophies and beliefs are. For me this means a space where students are treated as individuals. A place where they can be guided in a delicate manner and make them feel welcomed and loved. A classroom where all families and our communities are just a piece of the learning. An environment where no matter what your culture, background or impairment may be all are welcomed....
