Physics- Egg Drop lab report...

Description

Braelin Sutton Physics Egg Drop Lab Report There were five forces acting on my container; they were gravity, inertia, air resistance, shock, and impact. The contraption is trying to lessen the gravity for it so it would be so light weight that it would glide on the wind and not hit the floor so hard. It was trying to alter the air resistance force so it could glide on the wind like I just said. Some of the features of the container was a square block so that no matter where it would hit, it would have the same amount of stuffing. The dimensions of the box were 6 for the height, 6 for the width, and 6 for the length. The container serves to lessen or alter the effect of the force by being square and so the padding can help with it not hitting so hard. Newton’s first law was that an object in motion stays in motion until something stops it from moving. This law relates to my project by saying my contraption will stay in motion until it hits the ground. Newton’s second law says that the heavier an object, the more force it takes to move, and lighter objects require less force. The force in which the egg hits then ground will equal the mass of the egg. Newton’s third law is that for every action of force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. While moving downwards, the force of gravity is pulling the egg down. However, when the force is acting on the opposite direction too, that is due to air resistance. Some improvements I could have made on my contraption would be to add more support because it would bend, and the egg would come out of it. Another adjustment that could have been made would be to add some more padding in the side in case it would have fallen and hit on the corners.

I tested the contraption four times. My first one ended with a cracked egg because I had no support, so instead of just bubble wrap I got a small plastic bag and put packaged peanuts on there with the bubble wrap. I tried it again with the new way and it cracked, so I had my dad help me out and figure out what was wrong. I needed an out shell to help so we got a cardboard box and cut it to its desired fit. The box still didn’t help, and the egg had still cracked. The box had fell and hit the corner, which is what caused the egg to crack, so we put padding in the corners so that the egg would be protected. The last and final time I dropped the egg with the new design, it finally worked....
