ELON MUSK’S LEADERSHIP

I believe a leader is a passionate, driven and self-confident person who influences others to know how and what actions ought to be done, and who tries to make it easier for the rest to achieve those set goals. According to this, Elon Musk, a famous South African businessman most known for being founder or CEO of PayPal and Tesla among other companies, is certainly an example of a good enthusiastic, supportive and visionary leader; attributes which will now be developed with its respective examples.

Musk’s leadership style is surely not the prototype. He is, however, very persistent and obsessive with his objectives, having a vision at the same time. He knows where his company is, and where he wants it to be. An example of this is PayPal, which was considered one of the ten worse business ideas in 1999, but he believed in it independently of what they said, and today this EBAY’s subsidiary has a revenue of around eleven billion US dollars. Moreover, Musk is actually known for stopping projects if he does not consider them good enough. Musk has always searched for new opportunities, even investing his earned money to try new challenges and ideas, in which he has definitely succeeded.

Without any doubt, he orientates his leadership in a way to achieve what he seeks, establishing high goals, and requiring a remarkable level of working from his workers. Nevertheless, this does not mean that he does not admit his mistakes and support his employees. He is indeed very consistent in his actions. If there is a word that cannot describe him better, that is probably his problem solving. This has been clear in his whole intense life, where he has demonstrated to be an effective, integral and humble leader who recognised errors and carried on in every single project he has done, which can be reflected in his impressive professional career results.

Based on the aforementioned, I firmly think that Elon Musk is a great leadership model. As stated above, Musk is clearly the example of how his passion goes beyond enthusiasm, making him a very good leader, who also counts with a valuable emotional intelligence, where his emotions work for him and not against him; as well as a great ability to make people believe in his vision. Finally, his transformational leadership and assertiveness help him to perform many tasks and accomplish his objectives....
