During the last few years, we have come together to lead our company into being the most profitable division and my time of being a team leader has been memorable. We have all been faced with some unforeseen events that led to this unexpected promotion to be in this new position today, due to the unexpected departure of our last leader. Your help along the way has taught me many things, and I am confident that I am working with some of the best people out there. We will continue to succeed and drive this division as a team. I appreciate everything every one of you has done for the company. As we can all see somethings are out of our hands and we all can understand that these events aren’t always the best. While I am new to this position, my first goal is to what is best for the company and be the best for our team. One other thing that is out of our hands is the economy. Regrettably, this is my first week and I need to share a task that will not be easy for us. As mentioned, the economy has been very poor lately and this has caused sluggish sales. There was a difficult decision reached this morning, and we are required to downsize the company to make up for the hit from the economy. We need to downsize 3% of the employees in every division. It is a company wide downsize and there have been things put in place to assist employees who will be downsized. 1. ALL downsized employees will receive three months’ severance pay. 2. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) will be available, so health insurance can be continued for up to one year at the cost of $740 per month.

ENG 220: Delivering Bad New Memo 3. Employment counseling will be available so employees can update their resume, get help searching for jobs, and get help finding retraining or college programs. It was discussed that all employees are valued, and our goal is to make this unforeseen event for many feels easier about any transition. All parties of the decision-making process, including myself, tried to find other ways to recoup from the economy, but there was not any other option we could develop to avoid doing this downsize.
