Es Devlin Es Devlin creates kinetic sculptures in opera, dance, theatre, fashion film, television and music as well as solo work. (Kinetic art became a major phenomenon of the late 1950s and the 1960s. In the 1960s artists such as Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely experimented with geometric shapes that distort the viewer’s perception, creating artworks which, although static, give the impression of movement.)
Her first works were in small experimental theatres in London though her work has expanded over the past two decades – through the National Theatre, Sadlers Wells, Royal Opera house, La Scala, and then onto the o2 Arena, Wembley Stadium and the Olympic stadia in London and Rio Music work: She has designed stage scuptures in collaboration with Beyonce, Kanye West, U2, Jay Z, Adele and the Weeknd. She designed the London Olympic closing ceremony and the Rio Olympic opening ceremony. Devlin continues to work in theatre at all scales. Her solo design work include installations such as: The Singing Tree at the V&A Museum 2017/18, Room 2022 at the Edition Miami 2017, Mirrormaze in Peckham, London 2016, Playbox at The Belgian Stadstrennale 2016, PoemPortraits at the Serpentine gallery 2017 and Magicbox in the permenant collection at the V&A.
