Example Essay When Life Gives You Lemons Everyone says that “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” but have they ever made lemonade before? Because it doesn’t just require lemons, but an incredible amount of water and sugar. Not only that, the perfect recipe takes up to four hours to make! Similarly, life is just as simple as making the perfect lemonade, it takes time to be perfect. This saying also depicts a hopeful and optimistic attitude towards life, which allows people to be motivated in what they are doing. When I was in the third grade, I thought math was the hardest subject to learn because I was failing to understand every lesson. I mean, who really needed to learn the multiplication tables or how to round decimals? Obviously now I know better, but eight-year-old me didn’t. Nonetheless, I threw myself into studying and memorizing everything we learned in math. To this day, I am still thankful that I took the time to perfect my math skills at an early age because it is so useful to me now. When dealing with difficulties, everyone thinks that they have been dealt the worst cards. Little do they know that someone else is facing their own problems as well. The saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” insinuates that every problem has a solution, offering hope and rejuvenating one’s belief in themselves. I was once told by my cousin that her friend wasn’t accepted into the university of her dreams and how devastated she was about it. When school came around, she studied at her second choice university and found that she loved this campus even more than the previous. From the students to the staff, to the food, she realized that by not being accepted into her chosen school, more doors had open for her to see that there are better campuses out there. Although it took time for her to accept it and move on, new and better opportunities were waiting for her. Of course, this isn’t always the case. Few people remember that there is a resolution to every obstacle, instead choosing to focus on the problem and only the problem. Whenever I go shopping at the grocery store, there is always that one person complaining about something. Just a couple weeks ago, a woman was complaining that she

couldn’t find the bread on sale. She demanded a worker to help her find it and when she was told that they had sold out, she was furious. She argued for twenty minutes saying how it was the only type of bread she eats and now she doesn’t have any bread for the rest of the week. Despite this, she bought a different type of bread, grumbling the whole way out of the store. I recently saw the same woman at the store buying the same bread she decided to try! In the end, the woman discovered that she liked this type of bread, however, if she had taken this action earlier, she wouldn’t have wasted time arguing about an unchangeable situation. Making lemonade out of lemons is a great life lesson that teaches people that although it may take some time, there is still a solution for every problem and to not lose hope in one’s self....
