Folklore During my childhood, African folklore was a primary source of entertainment, as it is a part of our culture. After hearing the horror stories, I was afraid of being alone in the dark; it was so bad that I did not like to sleep alone. Developing a better understanding of the supernatural and death, I realized that not even crying and bargaining with God could bring back your deceased loved ones as death is final. I do not like reading fiction, so I prefer to watch a movie. During the 1990s, I developed a liking for watching horror movies; I used to make a habit of watching one every Friday night. Though I horror movies, the spooky ones drive a little fear in me. In my community, people believe in life after death, and some even think the spirit wonders after someone dies, which causes a fear of death and the dead. This behaviour translates to their reaction to fictionalized horror. Some would not read a horror story nor watch a horror movie as they fear the supernatural, such as ghosts and vampires. They fear horror to the point where they would burn frankincense and myrrh and keep their Bibles open to prevent evil spirits from invading their space. I am more afraid of the living than the dead. I believe that spirits leave this world when someone dies. On the other hand, the people living among you can be quite dangerous, especially when envy and jealousy set in....
