Lara Jakobson, Ph.D., a psychologist at NorthShore describes the different types of effects that social media can have on these young adolescence’s mental well-being. The author makes the claim that the negative effects of social media include cyberbullying, skewed perceptions, and social comparison. Then, she suggests different ways for parents to help their child who is going through difficulties because of social media. The resource contributes to my topic area by explaining that because social media is a constant part of a children’s life, it has an influence on their mental and moral perceptions. In relation to course concepts, it relates heavily to media effects since it pertains to the influence that media has over one’s cognition, attitude, and behavior.

The article contributes topic area by describing how television has an effect on children’s perceptions of the real world. This shows how television exposure can influence an individual’s

mental well-being, especially the way these young children view life because of the shows they watch. This relates to course concepts, specifically mass media since it’s defined that it can change an outcome within a person or social entity.

He makes the claim that people should not underrate the power of music because music connects with the emotional system of the child’s brain and the need for awareness and understanding of this media since it can change and affect children mental wellbeing. This video contributes to my topic area by explaining the significance of music in the development of children’s behavior and offering awareness over media and suggesting ways to evade the negative effects that media can make. The relevance of this resource to course concepts relates explicitly to the six types of effects of media, which is affects or emotion, whereas people tend to listen to happy music to sustain a happy mood.

They reported that the consumption of alcohol in the United States displays a serious public health dilemma, which consequently increases the risks of death from car accidents, homicide, and suicide. Rand researchers make the claim that alcohol advertisement causes young adults to consume alcohol which increases their use and the long-effects it has on their perception and attitude. This research study contributes to my topic area by depicting the effects of advertisement on young adult’s attitude and perception, particularly their exposure to the advertisement on alcohol raises a positive depiction in these young adult’s mind reinforcing their behavior and attitudes to drinking. In relation to course concepts, it relates significantly to advertising media since these young adults do not understand the persuasive intent of advertising.

The author makes a claim that the online, which contains a collaborative feature of contemporary video games is what makes it attractive, insidious, and addictive to children. This blog post contributes to my topic area by providing information to why video games shape the mind of the child. These young gamers may develop mental health problems including addiction. The relevance of this resource to course concept is the relationship between physiology and behavior since playing violent game relates to the exposure to violence which can alter youth’s behavior.

LoBue describes the study of where children are presented violence act and their imitation of the aggressive behavior that they witnessed. The author makes the claim that violent media can cause aggressive behavior in children and that this behavior can be detrimental due to the inclusion of guns. This blog contributes to my topic area by illustrating the influence that violent media can cause young children. It reveals the implications that can occur to young adolescence because of their exposure to violent media affecting their mental behavior. This relates heavily to our course concepts of the aggressor effect since young children become more aggressive after being exposed to violence.

Olsen makes the claim that these types of messages being transmitted can result in damage of development and health of children. This research study contributes to my topic area by focusing on the messages that different media may present and how it is affecting the way children view themselves which can result in the connection of body dissatisfaction and mental health problems such as eating disorder and depression. This relates to course concepts, especially the effects of media on physical and mental well-being since there is an internalization of ideal body type due to media exposure.
