Geoffrey Chaucer 1340-1400’s Author of the Canterbury Tales.

  

Setting is Medieval Times mainly about King Arthurs Knights and the Love Court. His writing is a lot longer than Boccacio’s writing. The Canterbury Tales is a Fabliau- humorous stories crated and told by the poorest children. The Wife of Bath’s Tale The wife has been married five times, she’s a headstrong rich older heavy-set woman. She is a popular weaver instead of being just a stay at home wife. Her favorite husband was her fifth husband whom read out popular stories against feminism. Which caused her to get angry they had a big fight which lead her to becoming deaf in one ear, but they ended up being together and more in love than ever. She is on this journey for a purpose we are not sure, but her tale is probably the best well known tale ever stated form the heart. Canterbury Tales is a group of tales that are told by a pilgrimage of Christians traveling to Canterbury. The Wife of Baths Tale is about a woman who has married five times with lots of money and her tale is the story of a knight of King Arthur’s Court that rapes a woman. He’s sentenced to death but is given a task if he can find what a woman desires in one year he would be spared. He is unable to find the answer until he meets an ugly hah she claims she has the answer but if she helps him he must do something in return for her. He accepts the deal and brings her to the Love Court and claims she has the answer. That women want to have some control of their household and marriage. It was the correct answer and the hag tells the knight you have to marry me. They married in a private ceremony and the night of the honeymoon. He refuses to make love to her and she lectures him about being older and poor. She offers him a deal either he can let her stay old and make love to her or she can turn into a beautiful woman and all the men will want her and she can cheat on him. He makes the decision to let her choose she changes into a younger woman and makes love with him. Geoffrey was rumored to have been accused for rape and his punishment was to try and attempt to write tales of love and romance for women. Chaucer’s characters are more well known as realistic now in our times of the 20th century instead of then in Medieval times. The Courts of Love- a court of women lead by King Arthur’s wife Genevieve. If there is a woman in the court that has been harmed in any way the court of love is the one thing that deals with the men and others that commit crimes against women. Geoffrey Chaucer had a influence over Augustine and his ideal theory of The Original Sin which claims that all women are evil. The General Prologue is written in A-A-B-B rhyming caplets. The religious culture is from the Catholic Church and the Catholics were set to be the guardians of Culture. Palmers are the Christian Pilgrims traveling to visit Christian Relics.

 
