Teacher’s Activity B. Introduction to New Lesson

“PORTRAY ME!”

“To have a gist for the new lesson, you will portray the words ‘YES and NO’ based on the expression: sad, happy, worried, excited, and shock.”

Students’ Activity

“Let us start with the sad expression.”

(The student will portray the sad expression of the words, yes and no)

“Happy.”

(The student will portray the happy expression of the words, yes and no)

“Worried.”

(The student will portray the worried expression of the words, yes and no)

“Next is an excited expression.”

“And lastly, the shock expression.”

“Wow! You portrayed it well.

the objectives needed to be learned for this lesson. ) “Did you know that while you are portraying those words with different emotions or expression, you are portraying with intonation and its patterns. And that is what our lesson for today.”

In linguistic, intonation is the variation of pitch when speaking. Used to differentiate patterns of pitch that carry meaningful information. Intonation is about how we say things, rather than what we say.

There are three types of intonation. 1. Falling Intonation 2. Rising Intonation 3. Rising-falling Intonation Falling Intonation- Describes how the voice falls on the final stressed syllable of a phrase or a group of words. Common in wh-questions.

Example:

Rising Intonation- Describes how the voice rises at the end of a sentence. Common in yes-no questions. Example:

Rising-falling Intonation- Describes how the voice fall and rises. It is also used when we are not sure or to add something. To request information, to invite, or to have something. Example:

Because it gives information beyond the basic meaning of the words. Using the stress and intonation it assist in communicating in strengthening a

specific meaning, attitude, or emotion in utterance. Your voice is like a musical instrument. As you speak, your voice gets louder and softer, places the emphasis on a certain parts. D.
