You should not have these in your assignments unless they are a direct quote. This includes forum posts and replies. This is a difficult habit to break. I highly suggest not using contractions in any of your writing, even nonacademic, for the entirety of your college career. The use of contractions in academic writing is considered an error in grammar/usage. Black text on white background - There is no part of your assignments that should be in any color of text other than black - no background color other than white. Boring black text and white space is the only combination appropriate in academic writing. Quotation marks should not be used for emphasis. There should not be any highlighting, bolding, etc. The use of these is considered an error in grammar/usage.
