Description

Emily Engh Wilmington University HIS 381 Week 4 Reflection

With this week reading and resources, the topics of terrorism, conflicts, and peace were the main headers. Searching or googling “terrorism” isn’t something I quite often do. In fact, part of me wonders if now the eyes are on me in just googling the word. (just kidding, kind of!) Anyways, terrorism is not often spoke about unless it is referring to 9/11 or the middle east. One of my articles I read and summarized introduced the fact that new legislation might be coming into effect shortly with the new Biden administration. Many of us do not think of the most recent mass shooting as an act of terrorism. Some of us might think it is just a hate crime towards one specific kind. After reading this article and summarizing it, I began to think about all these mass shootings. Should they be charged as acts of terrorism? Where does the line draw and determine which is a hate crime and which is considered terrorism, or terrorist attack? Or is there even a difference? Obviously, it can be different in each circumstance, however I do agree some new legislation needs to be put through charging some of these hate crimes as terrorism charges.
