Description

I have chosen Lovelace Medical Center located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lovelace Medical Center is a patient-centered hospital that rooms 263 beds and serves a population of 558,000. Lovelace is privately owned by Ardent Health out of Tulsa Oklahoma. Lovelace Medical Center offers, Breast Care, Cardiovascular, Dermatology ,Diabetes & Metabolism, Endocrinology, Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery and several other services as well. The reason I have chosen Lovelace is because I am currently an employee. I’ve worked for Lovelace for 2 years. In August of 2017 Lovelace Health System launched a new electronic health record system, Epic. Epic software supports physicians, nurses and others on the team. Lovelace has over 345 physicians that are on staff. By using Epic, physicians can access patient’s information in multiple ways. Employed physicians of the hospital can access Epic care ambulatory EMR, community physicians via a shared record-connecting affiliates, community physicians via record exchange- epic interoperability, paper-based physicians via web portal-epic care link.

Lovelace also has over 400 nurses on staff. Nurses are able to access the Epic software. For the nurses the system offers collapsible flow charts for nursing documentation and a clinical graph of vitals and clinical events.

The patient portal assists in building relationships between the patients and their physicians. Patients can access they’re information, request appointments, and also ask they’re physicians questions they might have before they’re appointments. Patients access their records via My Chart, which is literally the same chart used by their physicians and they’re staff. Patients can also schedule appointments, get test results and also print out there charts as well.

Epic fully endorses and formally adopts the EHR association developer code of conduct. This code encourages cooperative and transparent business practices among industry stakeholders. Epic has had a long history of embracing the codes key value and practices including: responsible development, patient safety, interoperability and data portability, clinical and billing accuracy, privacy and security and patient engagement.

Epic was chosen by Ardent Health which Lovelace’s owner, because it integrates charts from the hospitals to the clinics. Epic offers Lovelace increased efficiency and convenience for patients to schedule appointments. It eliminates paper with electronic statements and online bill pay. Epic is complaint to the government incentives such as electronic access to the patient health record. It offers secure, online access complying with HIPAA regulations for privacy and security. Epic provides the answers to most questions that the patient’s may have.
