Marcos Molina 10-28-18 MUSI 3394 High School Methods TMEA Scavenger Hunt 1. TMEA was established in1920, originally under the name Texas Band Teachers Association. 2. Band, orchestra, vocal, elementary, and college. 3. TMEA goals are more suited to the promotion of music and partnerships within the profession, and my philosophy is more suited to the benefit of the students. Our goals are different, but the one we do have in common is that we both want to create and quality experience for the students. 4. Publications, directory, scholarships, and mentoring network. 5. College student is $25, and the active teacher charge is $50. 6. UIL provides extracurricular contest. UIL is designed to support and enrich teaching music as part of the school curriculum and provides various connections for directors. 7. A. Area- For the purpose of advancement to the Area and State Marching Band Contest the regions are grouped into 9 areas for 6A,5A, and 5 areas for 2A, 3A, and 4A. B. Region- For the purpose of UIL Music Competitions and Evaluations the state is divided into 33 geographical regions. Region is determined by geography, population density, number of schools, and participation. C. 3A- Enrollment of 225-504. D. 4A- Enrollment of 505-1149. E. 5A- Enrollment of 1150-2189. F. 6A- Enrollment of 2190 and above.

8. On paper. 9. The Texas Music Scholar Award is an award given to students in high school that are an example of a meritorious performer. A teacher submits an application to nominate students for the award. The student must maintain an “A” average for the district, maintain their academic eligibility year long, attend two director approved concerts, performed a UIL Class 1 solo for contest, and etc. 10. - Interest in performing arts leads into motivation, which helps develop the attention span necessary to perform at a high caliber and the attention span can be applied into many subjects. - Musical training assist in applying information to long term memory and current work. - The practice of music and skill shows itself more physically than numerically. - Acting training leads to the improvement of memory training. 11. No pass, no play means that if a student is not passing their courses with 70 or above, they are not allowed to participate in any UIL related contest. A student may rehearse with the ensemble, but not participate in contest. Ineligible students may not travel with the ensemble. Ineligible students may travel on educational field trips, but not contest related trips. Ineligible students may not participate in any form with the ensemble, all participants must be eligible. 12. Students are not allowed to learn choreography or sets to their competitive marching show prior to August 1st. Students may practice marching fundamentals and show music. 13. The head UIL chair.
