2-2 Short Answer: Seeing Your Artifact in a New Light In a paragraph or two, provide a rationale for choosing the artifacts as potential options for your project.

1. My chosen artifact is the Claddagh Ring. 2. Describe the artifact in detail using any applicable senses mentioned in the overview. This is a ring that is made in gold, white gold or silver. There are two hands holding a crown topped heart. It is worn in different ways with the heart facing inward toward your body or outward away from your body. The way you wear it has different meanings. It can be adorned with diamonds or just plain. 3. What are the elements of the artifact that you believe are most important to how you experience it? Does the choice of medium impact your experience?

Some of the elements that I believe are most important are the the hands holding the heart. The meaning of the hands is that of friendship. The heart is love and the crown stands for loyalty. I also definitely think the choice of medium impacts the experience because it’s much different than something like a singular piece of jewelry. It has meaning and the way it is worn tells a story unlike a regular band or plain diamond ring.

4. State your opinion on what you believe is the purpose of this artifact and the success of the creator in achieving the purpose. I think the purpose of this artifact is to symbolize something that the creator was trying to say and wanted a way to say it with just one piece of jewelry and not have more than one to show his love, loyalty, and friendship. 5. Discuss how the artifact reflects the culture (or context) in which it exists. Be sure to address what aspects of culture have relevance for this artifact: politics, history, religion, social perceptions, technology, media, education, and so on. In other words, how do the artifact and its culture interrelate? The Claddagh Ring reflects its culture in many ways. The ring is given to daughters from a mother and also grandmothers pass these down to their granddaughters. It is also given as a wedding ring and an engagement ring. The way the Claddagh Ring is worn also has a meaning. This is not just a ring it is a symbol. The history of the ring dates back to the 17th century in the little village of Claddagh....
