Question 1: Do you think that CIC Logistics Pvt. Ltd. needs an HR Department? Justify.

Answer: HR department plays a significant role in an organization, as it manages the man power of the organization. After studying the case of CLC Logistics Pvt. Ltd., shows that it needs an HR department. Because high staff turnover is not a result of pay structure, as it was told that the pay structure is competitive, then there must be some issues that employees are having in working environment and there is one to address them. After discussing with the four mangers we derived the following reasons.     

Lack dedication and give no interest in career opportunities. They do not get a meaningful feedback on their work. They need a mentor. Training was irrelevant and dull. Absence of HR Department.

Solution to these problem is development of hr department in the organization. Employees lack dedication because they are not motivated mentally. They don’t appreciate the career opportunities provided by the firm because they might found them useless or less beneficial than opportunities provided by other organizations. Productive feedback should be given to employees in which they are told about their strengths and weaknesses. This will increase the motivation and dedication of the employees. HR manager can fulfil the need of mentor at the workplace. He can train young employees, groom their personalities and make them competent professionals. HR department can also improve the training sessions under its supervision by adding new and relevant programs into training sessions. By developing HR Department we can also retain young employees and save the cost of removal and hiring of new employees. Cost of training sessions will be saved too.

Question 2: What role does an HR Department play?

Answer: Role of HR department is the management of the people in order to achieve the organizational goals. Hr department plays following functions: 

Managing Manpower:

Human resource department analyze the organization that whether there is need of a new employee or not. When the get confirm that there is a vacancy they call people for interviews and that how they manage the man power. 

Job Description:

Job description refers to the duties and responsibilities of the job, qualification required to perform the job and the designation of the job. 

Recruitment:

Recruitment is the key function of the human resource department. HR department recruits new employees against certain criteria. 

Determining of wages and salaries:

Wages and salaries are also decided and bargained with the employees by this department. Moreover, this department also kept an eye on other needs of the employees like refreshments, dinners, outings etc. other allowances are also managed by this department. 

Training of employees:

Training of employees is also responsibility of the HR department. Employees can trained for various purposes. Like new employees need training for understanding the job and working of organization. Existing employees might need refresh courses in order to increase their efficiency. Training programs can be on the job or off the job. 

Performance Appraisal:

Performance appraisal is also conducted by HR department. Through performance appraisal they come to know that which employ is more efficient and which employ needs to work hard or training. 

Safety of Workplace:

For peaceful working safety of the workplace is necessary. It is also duty of the HR department to manage the safety of the workplace. 

Communication Channel:

HR department is a communication channel between the upper management and the labor. All messages for the upper management from labor are transferred by HR department. On the other hand, policies are also conveyed to the labor through HR department. 

Redundancy and Compensations:

Sometimes firm donned need services of an employ so that employ may be made redundant. It is duty of the HR department to make sure that all requirements of redundancy are met. Whereas, compensations on redundancy or dismissal are also handled by the HR department.

Question 3: How would you sell the idea of the HR Department to the Managing Partner?

Answer: A report should be presented to the managing partner in which importance of the HR department stated. He should be told that it will increase the worth and rating of the organizations. As far as CLC Logistics Pvt. Ltd. is concerned, they are disturbed by the high rate of staff turnover. We can state the reasons of the staff turnover and tell him that how we can overcome these reasons by developing an HR department. He should be told with figures that this much cost is wasted on settlements with old employees and training of new employees. These funds can be us somewhere else to achieve organizational objectives. This will also increase the morale of the employees that the upper level management cares about them....
