ENQUIRY 1: WORKING WITH CHILDREN SYNOPSIS The first case enquiry relates to the family of a four-and-a-half year old child, Ana, who are attending a community health centre (refer to document entitled “Cooinda Community Health Centre” on MOODLE). You will be asked to take the perspective of a recent health and human services graduate who is acting as an intake officer in this community health centre (refer to document entitled “Cooinda Community Health Centre Intake worker role description” on the MOODLE. In this role she/he has seen Ana and one or both of her parents, Chris and Kat, on two occasions. Whilst the case primarily relates to working with a four-and-a-half year old child. However, working with children in a health or human service setting also typically involves working with one or more relatives of the child. Thus, this scenario relates to both a young child and her parents. Your task is to determine how three important person-related factors can influence how individuals present in health and human services settings. Specifically, you will be asked to analyse the ways in which learning, development, and memory influence how Ana is presenting in this setting. To be able to answer these questions successfully you will need to do the following:  

Examine the assessment task questions carefully, and Examine to the case-specific resources to create a rich understanding of the intake worker, Ana, her parents, the family’s behaviour, and their interactions with the intake worker. As you progress through the weekly content, you will develop your understanding. You are encouraged to discuss the assessment task with your peers in the Assessment Discussion Forum.

community health centre as an intake worker ANA: A four-and-a-half year old girl, born in Melbourne, Australia, who is shaped by several

health and welfare issues KATRINA (KAT): Ana’s 31-year-old mother, who emigrated from the former Yugoslavia 9 years

ago and is married to Chris CHRIS: Ana’s 38-year-old father who emigrated from the former Yugoslavia with Kat

TO BE SUBMITTED: Individual Report - 1,000 words (20%) Your task is to prepare a report that relates to working effectively with children and their families.

The following questions require theoretical application and need to be defined and discussed in terms of the case scenario (using correct APA 7 referencing style). You will need to provide clear examples from the case scenario in order to illustrate your understanding of the questions. 1. Identify how Ana’s behaviour (as described in the case enquiry) has been, or is being, influenced by learning. Which specific learning principles are operating, and in what specific ways are these influencing Ana’s behaviour? (Please provide a definition of each learning principle (including reference/s), and at least one example of operant conditioning, one example of classical conditioning, and one example of social learning theory from the case scenario in your response). 2. Identify and define Ana’s probable stage of psychosocial and cognitive development. In your answer, please include the following: a) What factors (e.g., social and environmental), as described in the case enquiry, might be affecting Ana’s development? b) What influences are the identified factors having on Ana’s behaviour as described in the case enquiry? (You will need to provide a definition of both developmental theories (including reference/s) and justify the stages you have identified Ana to be in, with examples from the case scenario to demonstrate your understanding of each stage). 3. In what ways are issues with memory impacting on Ana (as a result of the memory processes of other significant people in the enquiry)? (In your response, you will need to include a definition of memory with reference/s and explain the impact of memory on Ana by providing examples from the case scenario).

FORMAT As this assessment is to be written as a report, you should: ● Use sub-headings (e.g., key words from the question) ● Convey your responses clearly and effectively, i.e., you may wish to use dot points and short paragraphs with further explanation ● Use 12-point, Times New Roman font, with double line spacing ● Adhere to APA 7 referencing style ● Embed the Assignment Cover Page & Declaration Form into your report (this can be found near the Enquiry 1 Submission link). For ease of use, you can download the Assignment Cover Page & Declaration Form and commence writing your report on the second page. ● +/- 10% rule applies on the word limit (not including the reference list)

The exam will cover all content material from the five topics covered in Enquiry 1 (Learning Princ iples, Human Development, Memory, Intelligence and Psychological Disorders). Go to > Assessments > Online Exam Quizzes > Enquiry 1 Exam. Any student found colluding with another student will be penalised.
