Legal Research LLH401 InsideSherpa Report Renee Kemps n9446478 Word count: 410 During the virtual internship I was educated about the firm (Leo Cussen) and given various tasks to complete. These tasks including: reviewing client communications, preparing a memo, drafting an advice and summarising legal information and laws. I selected to undertake my virtual internship with Leo Cussen due to my interest in the field of international law. I spent time browsing through the options available on InsideSherpa and whilst all options could have provided an excellent practical training opportunity, I was most interested in the tasks entailed of the Leo Cussen internship. The tasks related to the areas of employment and international law. Whilst I selected Leo Cussen on the area of law it offered, all virtual internships InsideSherpa offered an excellent opportunity to gain an inside into legal practice. The task I enjoyed the most of the internship involved identifying human rights international conventions that applied to a deportation matter. Having never been exposed to such an area of law, it was not only an opportunity to apply my legal skills practically but also learn new law. I have hope that the knowledge I obtained during the internship will form a foundation for the further studies I undertake in the field of international law. Overall, the internship allowed me to use the legal academic skills I have obtained through my studies at Queensland University of Technology and allowed me to further develop those skills in a professional context. This had a positive impact on both my competence and confidence performing certain tasks. I found the internship an overall positive experience and looked forward to completing the tasks I scheduled myself to finish each week. The complexity of the tasks was a positive surprise. I felt a challenge when researching on international law. The questions that were presented were not necessarily answered by a simple 'google search'. They required legal analysis, drafting skills and an ability to focus on critical information. I was comfortable completing these tasks as I complete them regularly as a paralegal. However, the tasks were more challenging in a sense that they were related to a field of law I had not been exposed to before. InsideSherpa's platform was efficient, easy to use and overall made the tasks more enjoyable to complete. The only feedback I can provide for improvement would be to consider providing more instructions for tasks, perhaps 'narrowing the scope' for research-orientated tasks....
