Description

ASSIGNMENT #1 SUBMITTED TO: STEPHEN YOUNG SUBMITTED BY:

I interviewed Allen Perlman who owns A. PERLMAN PARALEGAL SERVICES Professional Corporation. His office is located in Brampton. Perlman Paralegal services practices in the areas of debt collection, Breaches of contracts, civil wrongs and enforcement of judgments. He represents a small claims court. He assists his clients

to recover the debt or property that belongs to them. He is been in this career since 20 years. He has a lot of experience in the cases related to debt collection, civil wrongs etc. He enjoyed the cases related to debt collections because he says that whenever a client recovers the money it satisfies him. He also told to me that he loves to do the research work even though he has hired the staff under him because of a huge amount of work. The challenges faced by him in this profession are high stress and pressure, clash of dates of two hearings. First of all, he faces multiple deadlines on daily basis and has to deal with them. When the dates of two proceedings clash he has to send his junior practicing under him to one of the proceedings. The competition in the paralegal field is increasing day by day as many new people are entering in this profession as it is not as hard as being a lawyer. He advised that if a person wants to enter the legal profession he should gain practical knowledge by working under someone. One should choose a mentor who will guide him throughout the process. One should not open his firm just after completing the paralegal programme because as a new paralegal you would not have enough knowledge and you require a huge amount of money to open a firm. He advised that one should open the firm in partnership in the beginning. As he got little time to answer my question I missed some questions which I would like to ask him such as Whether he hired an accountant for taxation purposes or whether he maintains such records himself and how he started his business and what problems he faced in the starting.

I learned from him that in order to be successful you need to have patience and have to be disciplined. Moreover, one has to wait for 3-4 years to gain profits as you will not start making profits immediately....
