Question

What inspired you to become a U.S. citizen? My husband and children live in America as citizens and I plan to live here with them for the rest of my life. I wanted the same rights as citizens while being here.

What steps did you have to take as part of the naturalization process? I turned in an application. They took my fingerprints and I waited for my interview where they asked me a bunch of questions and after that I took the oath and I was a citizen.

How would you describe how you felt about the process? Nervous.

How has citizenship changed your life? I can vote and do things I couldn’t do as a resident.

Is your daily life different because of citizenship? Not really.

Do you feel the process was worthwhile? Since I was a resident it didn’t change much but I don’t regret it.

If you had to, would you do it again? Please explain. Probably not it wasn’t that much different from being a resident just a few more benefits and I don’t think there should be any reason I would have to keep becoming a citizen it’s a hard, long process.

(Create an additional question.) What country are you from originally? Germany.

Response: Short essay There is plenty of reason why immigrants must go through the naturalization process to become an American citizen. One reason is so that they know their rights. For example, Miranda vs. Arizona was a case of an immigrant who didn’t know his rights and was not read them while undergoing arrest so what he said that was incriminating himself was not allowed to be used in court. This case became so revolutionary you now must be read your Mirand rights twice, once when undergoing arrest by a single officer and again when in front of more than one (or his partner). Another reason is for patriotism we want Americans to love America and know about our history. I believe this process is very efficient and informative. As I’ve heard the questions asked are very hard and most natives wouldn’t be able to answer them. I feel like they learn more about us to be apart of us than we know ourselves. This process indeed achieves its goals. I would change it to where you aren’t required to speak or write English. Because over 20% of America speaks a language at home other than English this is over 1/5th of households. In America we also do not have a designated language. I could make a viral message to promote my point in hopes people rise up and revolt with me....
