APRN Interview Question Assignment

The transition from registered nurse (RN) to nurse practitioner (NP) can be challenging. It doesn't matter how much experience someone has as an RN or school they attend to become certified as NP, if there is no proper support system in place during this time, the transition will be difficult. There is a research study titled "Exploring the Factors that Influence Nurse Practitioner Role Transition." The study was conducted by Dr. Barnes Hilary and published in the journal for nurse practitioners in 2015. The study caught my attention because it explores some factors that affect NP transition roles relating to role transition with or without formal orientation. The findings show that only a formal orientation and supportive care environment are significant factors in transitioning from RN to NP. In addition, the researchers found that NP who received a formal orientation were more likely to be less stressed and more confident about their ability to perform the job than those who did not receive it. So, therefore, from this study, we can conclude that the role transition is like a journey that needs a navigator and a guide to help us navigate through the journey. Those navigators are usually people like professors in nursing school, employers who are willing to pay for the training and resources needed to get there, and colleagues who are ready to take on the responsibility of helping us find our way. That is why I think the following interview questions should be asked as an opportunity to learn more about the role transition process the employer has to offer. Interview Questions 

Why do you need NP services in your organization?

What is the rate of NP turnover in your organization?

Do you provide a formal orientation to new NP positions in your organization?

What challenges do you think I will face if I am hired as an NP in this organization?
