C1- Introduction and Product overview...

Description

Introduction This report will thoroughly encapsulate and explain the design and development required for the designing and production of a survival kit product that will allow a household to survive at least 72 hours in the case of a human influenza paramedic disease. Included in this report is the product overview, will concisely demonstrate the design solution we have decided to go with. Also included is product design features which demonstrate the key characteristics our product has, this in turn establishes our product as unique and better than the competition. This report will include a product business plan which contains the development budget, product expenditure breakdown, breakeven analysis and a detailed cost analysis of the total design effort, production setup, production run and wholesale distribution costs.

Product overview Our engineering team has developed and produced a Home Insulation Survival Kit for a household of four enabling them to survive at a minimum of 3 days in case of a Human Influenza Epidemic. The Home Insulation Survival Kit not only meets scenario requirements but also is innovative in its features and design. Our product satisfies scenario requirements as it consists of a number of different hygiene, dietary and miscellaneous items all placed inside a trolley backpack made from nylon. Therefore, this product meets customer’s needs as it is valuable for families to due to the fact that it can help customers in emergency situations. Our product is innovative, this is displayed through our key product design features;    

We have designed a backpack with straps but it also has two wheels and a handle to use the bag as a trolley. This allows the product to be moved and carried around any location easily. We have chosen Nylon as the backpack material because it is a weather resistant material, resists abrasion and tough. Nylon also is a lightweight material. Inside the bag is lined up with foam to prevent items from breaking or leaking. Product also provides health and safety to customers such as disinfection and sterilization.

The target market of the product will be communities living in rural and remote areas of Australia. Approximately 31.5% of the Australian population live in remote and rural areas. We will be utilizing key suppliers to get our product out to our customers; this includes e-commerce to sell our product on Amazon. Our product will also be sold in convenience stores and pharmacies. The selling price for 1 unit will be $200. This will allow profit of 33% of the manufacturing cost. This product will be competitive on the market due to the price but our product is innovative and contains features and design that are much more superior than competition, as a result making our product better than the competition....
