IT 202 Project One Site Survey Template Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Stakeholder Info This section lists the project stakeholders: Chief Information Officer Systems Security Officer Assistant Vice President of Finance IT Project Manager Systems Architect (Edward Rainey) Operating Systems Provide approximate number of users who currently use each OS: Windows [127 users] macOS [14 users] Linux [25] *If there is additional information required, such as details of the OS version or different OSes being used, include here: [Windows server 2012 R2, RedHat Linux, Windows 7, Mac OS EL Capitan] Server Determine whether the desktops are on a hardware or cloud-based server. Also specify the version of the OS server. Physical [N/A] Cloud-based [Microsoft office 365 server is cloud-based.] Standard Hardware for Operating System Types Determine the hardware requirements:    

[Dual-core CPU minimum, quad-core recommended 4GB RAM minimum, 8 GB recommended Network connection: Wired recommended, wireless is supported Devices must support H.264 and AVC decoding.]

Network Connection Determine whether the network is wired or wireless. Select one of the following:

1

Wired [Insert X if network is wired.] Wireless [ X ] Applications Determine what applications are already on-site and/or which applications employees want to use, as well as which OS supports that application. Indicate by selecting below: MS Office [Supports Windows, MacOS, and Linux (cloud based).] Adobe Desktop Publishing Software [Supports Windows, Linux, and MacOS] Corel Desktop Publishing Software [] Oracle or SAP [Oracle supports Windows and Linux, SAP can support Windows, Linux, and Mac OS (install SAPGUI for Java environment on MAC OS) All employees recommended use.] Virus Protection [X – Supports Windows, MacOS, Linux. IT dept., Finance, HR, and security would use this] PeopleSoft HR [Insert X HR uses this software. Windows and Linux support.] Systems Architect Name: [Edward Rainey] Date: [May 14, 2021] Proposal [After conducting a site survey of this company, moving forward with upgrading and

modernizing the IT infrastructure of this company is strongly suggested. Being that we are working with Desktop computers in all departments and all of them are running outdated operating systems with most of the software being used is cloud based. To ensure productivity remains high, security is maintained, and costs remain low, i recommend the operating systems be updated to the latest versions. There are 127 users on the windows 7 OS, i recommend that these PC’s are updated to windows 10, The departmental applications that are run on windows 7 are all compatible with the latest version of windows 10. The 14 MacOS Catalina users should update to Mac OS Big Sur (which supports windows OS) and also have a shortcut on the desktop to your VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) for the applications that need to be accessed by different departments. Being that RedHat Linux has been discontinued i would recommend upgrading to Cent OS, due to the fact that it is (arguably) more secure and stable than Ubuntu and it is pretty much identical to Red hat Linux. I recommend that Departmental software used in the organization be run in a virtual desktop infrastructure so that all departments have access to critical information. Implementing the use of a virtual environment and the use of virtual machines on each device especially in IT department in case there is a need to access certain software programs, troubleshoot any known issues, and

prevents this department from having to purchase more devices and the ability to run multiple systems at once. The 42 physical servers that are in the organization should also be updated to the latest versions, windows server 2012 R updated to Windows server 2020 which supports windows 10 OS, upgrade Mac os Catalina to MacOS Server5.11.1, and the Linux servers should be running Cent OS 8.3.2011. The minimum hardware requirements for Windows 10 are having a 1GHz or faster processor, 1GB RAM for 32-bit or 2GB RAM for 64-bit, 16GB of free hard disk space, and a Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with a WDDM driver. If the devices that will be upgraded to Windows 10 do not meet these requirements, then new hardware will need to be purchased. The minimum hardware required for macOS Catalina 10.15 is slightly stricter. This OS can only be run on certain devices. These devices include the 12-inch MacBook (2015 and later), MacBook Air (2012 and later), MacBook Pro (2012 and later), Mac Mini (2012 and later), iMac(2012 and later), iMac Pro (2017), or the Mac Pro (2013 and later) . The minimum hardware required is 4GB RAM and 12.5GB free hard disk space. The minimum requirements for Linux Ubuntu are similar to the requirements for Windows 10, but with slightly higher needs. This OS requires a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB minimum RAM (although 2GB is much more preferred7), and 20 GB of free hard disk space. The last point needing to be mentioned is the network connection. There are currently 46 computers that need to be hard-wired. My suggestion is for all devices in the executive administration department, the security department, and the finance department to be wired. I recommend that for these departments because wired networks can be more secure thanwireless , and these departments are more likely to have sensitive data that needs more security. The other networks in the organization I believe would benefit greatly from a wireless connection. Not only is this the cheaper option because less hardware is required, but this gives a better range for remote work. I believe wireless should be implemented in the HR department, the IT department, the marketing department, the training department, and the operations department. Typically, these departments would have less sensitive data and could benefit more from wireless connectivity. I advise that these suggestions be implemented immediately ASAP. While there may be some expenses incurred for upgrading any hardware that may be required, the time and productivity improvement achieved through this upgrade will outweigh the cost. The outcome for the organization in total will have 127 users on a mixture of Windows 10, MacOS Catalina 10.15, and Linux Ubuntu with the necessary hardware upgrades. All departments should have no problems running their needed software applications as long as the programs are all updated.]
