Purpose of Kansas Early Learning Standards ○ Create continuum that links early development to school readiness and latter learning in school and life ○ Provide clear statement of what kids should know and be able to do ○ Provide guidance for early learning professionals that enhance and support their abilites School Readiness relies on: ○ Community ○ Family ○ Educational environment - high quality learning ○ Child - are they reaching the age app milestones, health, social, emotional, Kansas Early learning standards ○ Provide set conceptual knowledge/skills, can promote scholl readiness School Readiness Framework: Indicators and Data Elements: same thing but for kindergarten and later school years Kansas Early Learning Standards ○ Are statements describing the skills and knowledge that kids, birth through 5, should know and be able to do as a result of participating in high quality early childhood programs Physical Health ○ Kids should have unstructured and structured play ○ Children play many of the same games @ the same ages because play is a mirror of the child’s thinking and motor abilities Social Emotional Development ○ Development of this relies on the developing capacity of child and their first five years of life ■ Forming close and secure adults and peer relationships ■ Experience, regulated and express emotions in socially and culturally appropriate ways ■ Explore the environment and learning Communication and Literacy Skill Development ○ Dual language learners ○ Research shows that young kids w/new language also learning another language helps and should be included into the program ○ Use home language and english, scaffolding the development Mathematical Knowledge ○ Finding young kids are able to do math long before the enter school ○ Math helps kids make sense of physical and social worlds around them and the naturally incorporate math Science ○ It feeds the curiosity of kids ○ The scientific problem solving of investigative play supports and enhances the kids learning Social Studies

Learning about the world in which one lives and understanding how ones family and community fit into a larger world of the state and the country ○ Through daily experiences kids begin to understand the impact of weather, how to use money, ect and the choices and accepting the consequences ○ They need to understand how life words and how to incorporate the understanding into daily life choices Creative Arts ○ Provides safe exploration of materials and a child’s environment fostering new ways of thinking through playful expression ○ Research shows a child that is exposed to arts will have a better chance to grow up to be a more creative, imaginative, expressive, confident, self-reliant and critically thinking adult...
