LAB NO.7: “TO EXPLORE VARIOUS PARAMETERS OF TREADMILL AND TO FIND THE EXERTION” INTRODUCTION: One of the most popular types of home exercise equipment is the treadmill, which provides a straightforward, efficient aerobic workout. For many, treadmills are a good choice to begin a new exercise routine because walking is well tolerated by most individuals regardless of fitness level and for most back conditions. As strength and endurance are developed, the treadmill can be used for jogging and/or for interval training. A machine with a moving strip on which one walks without moving forward. A treadmill was originally a wide wheel turned by the weight of people climbing on steps around its edge, used in the past to provide power for machines or as a punishment in prisons. The treadmill today serves as a device to maintain physical fitness. It is also an essential component of the exercise treadmill test, a stress test for heart disease.

OBJECTIVES The objectives of this lab are listed below: ∙ To know about the treadmill machine function and its parts. ∙ To find the heart beat rate & pulse rate using treadmill machine. ∙ To find the energy level consumption using treadmill machine.

TYPES OF TREADMILL MACHINE There are mainly two types of treadmill machines namely: 1. Automatic Treadmill Machines which possess automatic and digital controls with automated rotated belt. 2. Manual Treadmill Machines which possess digital display with manually rotated belt that is being displaced by the person. PARTS OF TREADMILL MACHINE The parts of treadmill machine are listed below: 1. Treadmill Motor (only in digital Treadmill). 2. Treadmill Belt. 3. Treadmill Frame (including handles and base) 4. Treadmill Console. 5. Treadmill display.

PARTS OF A TREAD MILL FACTORS TO CONSIDER Some factors and features that should be considered include: 1. The power of the motor. Many models of treadmills have a continuous power rating, usually from 1.5 to 3.0; a higher rating generally indicates a smoother motion and more powerful and quieter motor. 2. The area of the running surface. It should be both long enough and wide enough to accommodate the typical walking or running stride of the user to prevent falling or tripping 3. Electronic or manual controls that are easy to use, read, and program

4. An acceptable noise level, checked while in slow (walking) mode and running mode 5. Quality of the workmanship and stability, including whether the equipment has handrails and, if so, how securely they are attached ADVANTAGES OF TREADMILL MACHINE 1. The treadmill is a relatively easy piece of exercise equipment to use 2. The treadmill has a predictable surface that is much easier to negotiate than sidewalks, curbs or trails and the risk of tripping is reduced 3. All aspects of the workout can be controlled by the user: speed, incline, warm up period, cool down period, and energy spend. 4. Generally, users can design custom programs to fit the time they have to exercise 5. Multiple users can use the same equipment without adjusting the structure 6. Some treadmills have special features such as step counters and heart rate monitors so fitness progress can be tracked DISADVANTAGES OF TREADMILL MACHINE 1. They can be expensive, with some models. 2. They can take up a lot of space. The more sophisticated treadmills take up a fair amount of space (up to 36 inches wide by 72 inches long) and generally do not fold up. 3. Like other equipment with computerized programs and motors, maintenance of treadmills usually requires a professional. 4. Some treadmills have loud motors that interfere with other activities near the equipment. 5. Treadmills provide a limited kind of exercise - walking to running - so some people find treadmills boring after a while. DATA COLLECTION S/ n 1 2 3

CONCLUSION: From the above lab, it is being concluded that tread mill is an accessible tool, provides a good muscular workout and doesn't require learning a new skill. Treadmill walking accomplishes a similar workout to outdoor walking with some added physical and practical benefits. These indoor machines allow people to run on the spot for as long as they like, any time of the day or night, are a boon for walkers and runners....
