Exams:

Four exams will be held: September 13, October 11, November 15, and December 5. The three mid-term exams will be held on Friday evenings at 5:00 PM. Room assignments will be announced later. Students have one week after the return of an exam to bring any grading errors to the Instructor. After one week, no re-grades will be considered. The entire exam will be regraded. Students will not be allowed to enter the exam room thirty minutes after the start of the exam or after the first student turns in a completed exam, whichever occurs first.

Discussion:

Discussion is an integral part of the course. These sections are used for additional conceptual discussions, developing problem solving strategies, and further understanding the topics of the course. Quizzes and ALEKS homework will be given during the appropriate discussions. The due date for the discussion ALEKS objectives will depend on your section. This will be discussed in more detail during your first discussion meeting. You will be allowed to drop your two lowest quiz grades. Discussion will account for 10% of the final grade. No make-ups will be given and attendance is mandatory.

Homework:

Homework (also referred to as objectives) will be completed online using ALEKS.com. The due dates for all objectives learned in lecture is on Sunday at 7:00 pm every week. Homework will account for 10% of the final grade. No makeup homework assignments will be given. Technical difficulties are monitored at the server, thus any personal technical difficulties are not justification for due date extensions. It is in your best interest to start each objective early and work throughout the week.

The Class Code to our section in ALEKS.com is W9MR3-JQHYK. Please see attached instructions at the end of syllabus and on BlackBoard.

TopHat:

The TopHat online polling system will be used in this class. For this, students will respond electronically to questions during class via the online system. Entering of responses can be completed using computers, tablets, smart phones, and even via text. These responses are graded for both accuracy and participation. TopHat will account for 2% of the final grade. The join code to our section at TopHat.com is 348866.

Final Exam:

Thursday, December 5, 8:00 to 10:30 am.

Grading:

Your grade will be based on the following: Three mid-term exams Final exam TopHat ALEKS homework Discussion quizzes

19.33% each 25% 2% 10% 5%

Grading Scale:

A+ 98-100 A 93-97.9 A− 90-92.9

Incompletes:

An "I” grade will only be considered for an extremely compelling reason.

Drops:

September 4 is the last day to drop without a W; October 21 is the last day to drop with a W as per the UM academic calendar.

Cheating:

Attendance:

It is in the student’s best interest to attend all classes. The student should inform the instructor of any known class absences as soon as possible, or by the third class meeting. All planned absences should be sent to the professor by email.
