Description

The Hague Academy Of International Law Hague, Netherlands Subject: Application for registration/Letter of Motivation for the Summer Course 2021 Respected Sir/Madam I am a penultimate year law student from India. I am currently pursuing a five year integrated law programme at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India and will have completed four years of consecutive university study by May 2021. I am hereby applying for participation in the summer school programme for the year 2021 at the Hague academy of International Law. I want to start my statement of purpose by mentioning that the programme would be a valuable opportunity for me to gain the knowledge and practical insights into the domain of international law. The summer courses by the academy are a great opportunity for students like me to come and learn from the luminaries and the erudite of global stature at a place which is home to the International Court of Justice. Over the course of my degree period, I have studied two papers related to international law (i. Public International Law and ii. Human Rights, Refugee Law and International Humanitarian Law) and have scored the highest grade in both the papers. Having developed an interest in international law through academics and my experience working with a National Civil Liberties Organization, I am considering to pursue a career in International Law and I believe that the summer course will equip me with the necessary exposure to give me a head-start in my intended area of practice. I would like to add that I belong from the internationally disputed region of Jammu & Kashmir parts of which are under control of three countries. Being born after a decade long violent insurgency, I have grown up amidst two decades of civil unrest witnessing a constant abuse of civil, political and human rights. In this context, I have developed a keen interest in international law especially human rights and international humanitarian law as mechanisms to protect individual rights in situations where the law of the state fails to come to their rescue. After the completion of my degree, I intend to work with the Human Rights and Civil Liberties organizations of my country especially directed towards my conflicted home region in furtherance of the goals and objectives set forth for humanity in the Charter of the United Nations. Therefore, I am particularly enthusiastic about this summer school programme. Apart from the legal and professional aspect, the summer course will facilitate a cultural exchange and enrichment by bringing together students, academicians and professionals from different parts of the world. Interacting with such a diverse peer group shall be an experience of a lifetime in itself. I am applying for a scholarship based registration because the registration fee and allied expenses are a significant deterrent for me to avail this opportunity. I currently am a full time student and my primary source of income is allowance from my parents. Considering the levels of income in a developing country like India, even with support from my parents, I will not be able to bear the expenses for this entire programme which will most certainly result in my non-participation.

In this context, I request you to consider my application for scholarship so that I will be able to avail this tremendous opportunity to enhance my professional as well as personal credentials. Regards Yours Faithfully Mohammad Haris Mir...
