What are the signs and symptoms of Acute Pancreatitis? Upper abdominal pain, abdominal pain that radiates to the back, feels worse after eating, fever, rapid pulse, nausea, vomiting, tenderness when palpating abdomen. How can we treat acute pancreatitis? To treat acute pancreatitis, pt will be given antibiotics IV to treat the infection, IV fluids will be administering, low fat diet or fasting for pancreases to recover, pain medication will also be administered What are the goals of nursing care for a patient with acute pancreatitis? The nurse will assess the patient from head to toe, they will rate the patient pain level as well. Be in communication with the doctor and follow doctors’ orders up antibiotics administration to the patient. The nurse will make sure the patient is comfortable, monitor IV fluid infusion and assessing IV lines What diet restrictions does a patient with pancreatitis have? Diet consisting of high protein, low fat, no smoking, chewing tobacco, lose weight, do not drink alcohol. How do you use the CIWA-Ar assessment tool? The CIWA is the clinical institute withdrawal assessment for alcohol revised which consists of 10 items and administered rapidly at the bedside in about 5mintes. How do you communicate, assess, and treat a patient going through alcohol withdrawal? Pt will be educated of what this disorder is and how it can create long term hard to their body . This patient will be provided information of how to receive help, this patient will need rehab to get them through this process. The patient may not be able to receive information being provided to them. Diet is a great topic to cover as well. This patient will need to have a diet high in protein but also be gentle on their pancreas. This patient could remain NPO while pancreas recovers....
