DESCRIPTION OF THE TASK The first step in a Learning and Development process is to analyze the needs of an organisation. These needs regularly change due to changes in the corporate environment. This piece of assessment requires you to use a specified diagnostic tool to identify gaps in the current state of an organisation as opposed to the required new state. You must then identify the learning and development needs arising out of the gaps and make recommendations as to which learning and development needs should be met first. To guide you in this process, this assessment will use the dramatic changes taking place at Airbus as the focal case study. The company has announced it will end production of the world’s biggest passenger plane, the A380 “Superjumbo” model, by 2021. This will potentially place many jobs at risk. A major driver of this change is that many airlines now want smaller, more economical aircraft. Losing jobs is not a desirable outcome for Airbus so you, as the Learning and Development manager at Airbus, must make recommendations to the Airbus Board as to the learning and development steps which should be taken now to manage the possible negative effects of these job losses.

ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Using an analytical tool as provided in the Unit, conduct a gap analysis comparing the current state of the organisation with the desired future state. 2. Identify, list and justify using relevant theory the learning and development needs arising out of your gap analysis. 3. Provide a recommendation to the CEO as to which needs are to be met first justifying your answer.

Introduction – Short description of the aim of the report setting urgency. (50 words) Gap Analysis – Discuss the theory and then insert a table comparing the current state with the future state identifying learning and development gaps. Include in your table a column prioritising the L&D needs in terms of urgency. (600 words) Prioritised Recommendation – State and justify your prioritisation of needs. (300 words) Conclusion: Short statement reinforcing the urgency of action. (50 words) Reference list. Please use APA6 format for all referencing.
