Activities Complete the following activities: 1.

Carefully read the following: This project requires you to facilitate a discussion and debate on ideas with at least two different audience types. In doing so, you need to demonstrate that you can establish a communication framework, develop your ideas for communication and then debate and discuss those ideas. You are required to communicate your ideas in a persuasive manner to encourage a response, reaction and critical discussion. You will need access to a physical audience which can be your classmates, colleagues or other group of people made up of family and friends as is relevant to your specific situation. You will also need access to an online platform (e.g. a forum like Reddit, Twitter, Whirlpool etc.) where you can post a blog or other written communication to initiate a conversation that will turn into a debate. You will need the relevant digital tools to participate in the forum such as a device and online user account. Your assessor can assist you to select a suitable forum as necessary. Vocational education and training is all about gaining and developing practical skills that are industry relevant and that can help you to succeed in your chosen career. For this reason, basing your project on topics of your choice and ones that suit your specific industry or area of interest will mean that you are applying your knowledge and skills in a relevant, practical and meaningful way! You will be collecting evidence for this unit in a Project Portfolio. The steps you need to take are outlined below. Before you begin, complete page 4 of your Project Portfolio.

2.

Select your topic and plan your key objectives The first step is to select a topic of interest to you. This could be industry relevant or of recreational interest to you. It needs to be a lively topic that generates a range of ideas. It may be one that compares popular brands, new and emerging technology or approaches, be slightly controversial, or encourage strong opinions by others. It could be related to IT, politics, education, religion, sports or something completely different. It may be a topic that helps you raise awareness about a certain cause. Whatever it is though, it must be something that you are interested in and that can encourage debate and idea generation by those you are communicating with. You will need to conduct desktop research to complete this section. Work through Section 1 of your Project Portfolio and complete it as you go. To help you get started, here are a range of examples that would be suitable for

Religions and taxes – should religions be considered as charities and not for profits and benefit from tax exempt status if they do not have a charitable arm? Or should they be considered as businesses and lose their tax-exempt status in Australia?

Republic or constitutional monarchy – should Australia have an Australian as our head of state? What’s the argument for Australia becoming a Republic and how would this work in reality?

Social media – has it improved our social connection or damaged it? How can we use it properly without allowing it to replace physical human connections?

Develop your specifics tailored to each audience You now need to complete Sections 2 and 3 of your portfolio to ensure you have done the research and preparation needed before engaging in your presentations and debates to encourage idea generation and creative thinking. In section 2 you will develop a detailed plan for your physical audience. In section 3 you will develop a detailed plan for your online audience. Answer all of the questions and attach the necessary documents as advised in the portfolio. You will need to conduct desktop research in this section and consult with at least two other people.

If this is being held in the classroom, your assessor will provide you with specific information directly about the date and time that this will occur. If this being held with colleagues or friends then this needs to be recorded and then submitted to your assessor in a suitable format. Your presentation and discussion must run for a minimum of 30 minutes but not exceed 1 hour. There needs to be a presentation first, followed by an open floor discussion after you have presented your viewpoint. As a guideline your presentation of your viewpoint should be around 10 minutes and not exceed 15 minutes.
