Amanda Richards Rasmussen College of Nursing January 28, 2021 Capstone: Nursing Mission statement

My nursing mission statement is to provide a commitment to each and every patient that I will always do my best in each thing that I do for them. Every person that I will be taking care of in the future are a friend, mother, father, brother, sister, brother, sister, daughter, son, aunt or uncle. Keeping it in mind that every person that we as nurses take care of has a family no matter how close or distant they are keeps us from thinking that “this is just my job” and always pushing us to provide the best care. I intend on thinking and caring for each of them as if they were my own family, treat them the same way that I would want my family member to be treated. Something that we all tend to see when we are doing clinical or when we start our careers are the seasoned nurses who figuratively “eat their young” and act like we are all ignorant and don’t deserve their assistance. So something else that I pledge to do is to never become an unapproachable nurse who “eat their young”, I want to always be approachable and be willing to share my knowledge as I become a seasoned nurse. I will hope to be and will strive to be a better nurse today than I was yesterday. The reason that I chose to study to become a Registered Nurse is because of my Grandfather and the nursing care that he received. When I was about 10 or 11 years old my grandfather was sick with esophageal cancer during which time he stayed in the hospital for a few months so during that time he and my grandmother became very close with the nursing staff that were there day in and day out. There was one nurse by the name of Mindy who had been a nurse for roughly 15-20 years and I just recall how empathetic, caring and attentive she was during the final hours of my grandfather’s life. Due to my grandfather being in the ICU for so long she had become close (in a professional manner) to him and my family and I want to be the nurse that makes that type of positive impact on a family at their worst hours. I can’t wait to finish school, obtain my Nursing license and get out into the field of Register Nursing to be the best nurse that I can possibly be....
