AP/MODR 1730 SECTION D ASSIGNMENT 1 (CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS) STEP 6,7 AND 8 Conceptual Analysis “Is love Selfish?” Step 6 Social Case a) Farhan, a 27-year-old married man abandoned his wife and his 2-year-old son, Kabir to pursue his dream career abroad. Farhan become one of most renowned artists in the world. At the age of 15, Kabir discovered his birth father and contacted him only to discover that he is in a serious relationship with a lady. Kabir pleaded Farhan to get back with his mother and complete their family but Farhan turned him down as he was in love with somebody else. Now whenever Kabir is reminded of his father, he wonders if love is that selfish. b) This is a good context because whatever Farhan did was selfish but somethings are justified if the reason behind that is love. Yes- Kabir would despise his father forever for loving somebody else and abandoning his own family. No- Kabir will forgive his father because he will understand his father’s love and helplessness. Love 1.Sacrifice 2.Hope 3.Family 4.forgiveness 5.Understandable

Step 7 Emotional Case a) When I consider someone as a close friend of mine, I go out of my way to help them and support them through their ups and downs. I love them, however still expect the same gesture from their side sometimes. If I don’t get the same respond I tend to get upset. For Instance, when my friend is going through some hardship like break up, I stand by them, try my level best to get their minds off the pain, lighten up their mood and keep a check on them until I’m assured that they are feeling better. But when I am in their place, they just ask me to cheer up and pull myself together and do not make me feel the way I make them feel. I went up to my sister and told her everything, she said that love is selfless and when you love someone and do something good for them, u should not expect anything in return because that would be selfish. I often think to myself now “is love selfish?”. b) It is a good context because if you truly love and care about your friend you wouldn’t expect anything out of them and you would display kind gestures towards them only because you want to see them happy. Although everybody tends to keep expectations from their loved ones and believe that they would get love in exchange of love. YES-If love is selfish then eventually, I would cut all your ties with my friend because I am not getting the same respond I expected I will. NO-If love isn’t selfish then I wouldn’t let my expectations ruin my friendship. I won’t stop helping and caring for my friend for any selfish reasons.

Step 8 Practical Results a) Is love Selfish: Yes Family- Our parents would earn money for themselves and their own needs. Nobody in the family would help or support the other member in hard times and think of it as not their job but of the person who is going through it. Marriage-We would marry people with sense of practicality rather than emotions. People who would benefit us in long term. Friendship-We would tend to be friends with only those who personally benefit us in some way. We wouldn’t act selflessly and always look for personal gains in our friendships. b) Is love selfish: No Romance- Romance would exist because that is the way of showing your partner that you love them and want to make them happy.
