Simulation Assignment Template and Rubric Response

Reflection 1. Discuss how what you learned and experienced could impact the way you deliver care to your patients in the hospital and why.

Assignment 2. How did the interprofessional conference use collaboration to achieve public health goals? What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of the conference? Name at least one strength and one weakness.

Possible Points

I have learned that public health goes far beyond vaccinations and community education. I am learning to be more empathetic and have the knowledge and resources to provide my patients when they need it. Also, I am learning to provide therapeutic communication to my patients and provide them with a safe environment.

The interprofessional conference united different professionals such as social workers, school teachers, and nurses to work together for the benefit of the patient. It achieved goals by brainstorming and coming up with new ideas or implementation of resources to help the patient succeed. As far as strengths it stood out to me that they were all very open minded and willing to help in all kinds of ways, also in the simulation the parents were also willing to try the different options offered which I believe is a huge step towards progress. For weaknesses, in this special scenario economy is a big weakness as many of the resources require some type of payment that many parents/clients are not able to afford.

3. Identify what you feel is a major Social Determinant of Health (SDOH) that impacted the health of each client (4 clients/families) in the simulation.  Include at least 1 SDOH for each client/family. You should have a total of 4.  Briefly describe the barriers and facilitators to adequate health for each of the SDOH you identified.

Molly – socioeconomic, teen pregnancy, access to healthcare services, education Molly is a teen that is pregnant and living with her boyfriend who doesn’t make enough money, she does not have health insurance which puts her at risk, also her education level is a barrier to health. In this case Medicaid for pregnant women, WIC are some of the resources that help gain health for her. Washingtons- insurance coverage, this family’s insurance does not completely cover medications which created a barrier to health as they had to not be compliant with treatments. The Medicaid supplementation allows this family to cover medications, also having resources and knowledge of the “spousal pension” for ms Washington Halimo – education, lack of resources, culture Halimo comes from refugee parents which causes a barrier to health as they are in a different country, with a language barrier and culture differences. The interprofessional meetings allows these parents to feel safe and know that their child will be getting the help he needs to succeed in his education. Sussane PPD-support system Lastly this patient is suffering from PPD and lacking support as her family does not understand the diagnosis. with the nurse’s help she will be able to meet a counselor and talk about her depression as well as to get therapy for it.

4. Select one of the clients from the simulation and give an example of an intervention at the community level that can help reduce health disparities and positively impact their health. (You can come up with your own or you use the case studies on pages 12-30 Promoting Health Equity: A Re-

The New Deal for Communities I believe would positively impact the health of molly. The NDC is working on making neighborhoods better improve the local services as well as creating better communities and encourage economic development.

What are your thoughts about the role of nurses, either individually or collectively to improve the health disparities that exist to improve health-related outcomes in the United States? Total

This serves low-income population who live in poverty and with lack of resources as community services. This is determined to address the socioeconomic environment. Overcome unemployment, poor health, and crime barriers. I think nurses have a vital role in communities as well as individuals, they are seen as a role model in the community, and they are sometimes the first person to realize something isn’t quite working. As nurses work collectively to improve community health it will eventually add together and create a big change in the US outcomes.
