1-3 Journal: Did you get my message? John Christopher Baty Southern New Hampshire University

When I was a Manager for a Best Buy, one of my job requirements was to track and coach my Operation’s team performance in Protection plan attachment. Normally I would\, at the beginning of each week, pass out or leave a excel sheet of each of their performances and also one for the team at their register. Though I was providing the spreadsheet, in a lot of cases it didn’t seems like any change was happening. After discussing our shortcomings in a monthly team meeting, I found out that most of the team didn’t fully understand the spreadsheet, and some because of hours never actually saw it. So, my team though being provided the information, were not assimilating it. Or even worse not getting the information at all. One strategy I could have tried for reaching diverse audiences, or my team in this case, would have been trying to communicate on new platforms or in new places. I decided, in my own thought process, that the spreadsheet was the best way to interact with my team. Though available, I didn’t use the team email as I feel none of them would check it. There is also a way to send a message that only they would see upon signing in or signing out for the day. These alleys could have been helpful. The message could have been conveyed better if I would have understood that not everyone assimilates information the same, kind of like “what’s good for the

goose isn’t for the gander. I think a more personal approach of asking how they would like to receive the feedback could have helped with misunderstandings and all improved engagement. The second strategy that could have been trying to Develop Content for each audience/team member. As already stated not all people learning the same way. it would have been beneficial for me to learn and understand each team members preferred way of receiving information and tailor it to them in hopes of them understanding the content easier. This would allow the best chance I feel in the audience/team members to improve on our goals, and for them the best way to understand the plan to get them there.
