Judd Heeb Business 210 January 8, 2021 1-3 Journal: Leadership Assessment and Reflection After taking the Big Five personality traits assessment for management styles I believe the assessment captured my traits as expected. I scored Moderately High in Openness, Extraversion, and Agreeableness, I scored Moderately Low in Agreeableness and Neuroticism. The elements of this assessment helped me to understand my strengths as leader and what approaches I may need to take in order to bring out the best in my team. These results could also hinder me as a leader because it could cause me to focus too much on one specific trait instead of using them in a combination depending on the situation. I was not at all surprised by the categories that I scored Moderately High and Moderately Low. After reading the excerpts about each element I felt each one portrayed an accurate representation of my leadership style. As I read each one, I was able to reflect on several instances where I was in a situation that required me to call upon the different traits listed. The first element that I would to discuss is Agreeableness because the assessment scored Moderately Low. I believe this element impacts my leadership style when my team is up against a deadline or a goal that we are close to hitting. I tend to think about what I need to do in order to a accomplish the goal or beat the deadline. I’ve learned that if I talk to my about how close we are and get an idea of what they are doing it will take some of the stress off of me and help the team cross the finish line.

The second element that I would like to discuss is Openness, the assessment scored my Moderately High. I believe this element impacts my leadership style because I truly enjoy a structured day at work, but don’t mind having to think of new ways to accomplish old task when faced with a problem or system failure. Thinking about this element has caused me to reflect on some of the problems I have faced in the past at my old jobs and what I was able to accomplish. This element has caused me to consider that these are items I have always done based on my own experiences on the job. Different leadership styles can strengthen an organization by building up its employees to be the best versions of themselves. Having leadership that is diverse and understands the different Big Five traits will help to enrich an organization. Leadership is more than just being in charge; leadership can have a momentous relationship on an organization and its success. My personal belief is that actions speak louder than words, a great leader must be willing to participate and show the employees why something is important....
