I’m a democratic leader, this means that I like to make sure that everyone is heard and is able to give their opinions. To be an effective leader, you must be able to not only influence your team but also earn the trust of their team and inspire them. My scores from the Big Five assessment in week one showed that I have the ability to connect to my followers and provide them with the support that a manager could not because I can relate to them on a more personal level and connect with them on an emotional level. A downside to this was that it may hinder me because I am not always able to put my emotions aside and, also, there is the possibility that I may become too lenient and not get everything done that my team is supposed to. I would like to improve upon my consciousness because I believe that, even though I can normally pick up on other’s emotions, there is always room for improvement when it comes to thinking out how your decisions will affect the people around you and how you can change someone’s entire mood if you are just a little my conscious of your surroundings. It is important to be both a good leader and follower in a team because you have to be able to play both roles in order to know how your team thinks and acts. When playing the role of leader, you must be able to provide your team with direction, but also remember to play into the strengths of all of your team members to improve efficiency. When playing the role of follower, you must make sure that your leader is aware of your strengths while also making sure that you are asking the necessary questions to improve the efficiency of the team. I believe that I am able to play both of these roles effectively because I am aware of my own strengths and weaknesses while also being aware of the people around me and how well they are at certain tasks. As I previously stated, I’m a democratic leader. According to the Self-Assessment in Chapter 3 Section 12 of our e-text, this means that I tend to set the parameters for work and have the final say on decisions, but I actively involve my team members in the decision-making

process. This style can, also, build trust between me and my team, as they’ll likely feel engaged and valued. This style, however, is not great in a high-pressure situation that requires a fast turnaround since it will likely slow the team down. Also, this still isn’t great if you dislike disagree
