Description

Lesson 1

1. What Human Resource Management activities were illustrated by Sam’s schedule in the Application Case? In this case, Sam was handling too much projects and had problems related to the administration. He often faced problems to finish the project on time due to poor time management. When his boss, Glenna Johnson asked for further ideas for a given project, he could not give his ideas for more then 3 months. He believed that he had not much time to work on this project. He always tried to plan to work on the project in the mornings, but he always pushed the date of completion to the next week. 2. Outline the areas of ineffective management and time-robbers that are affecting Sam and based on the videos ad other sources, offer solutions to overcome these problems. Sam’s problems can be solved by using time management skills. First, he needs to write down all the planned things on a calendar ahead of time. For example, for holding one to one meeting, he needs to write down such as: person’s name, start of the meeting, duration of the meeting, planned questions to ask for a staff, tell the staff to set the time on his calendar too and tell him to plan questions to ask to HR manager. Appropriate time management helps to know the staff’s thinking better, it also helps to focus on vital activities, and it saves time. Secondly, Sam needs to commit to a future date. Sam needs to say that “I must commit to the plan”. Commitment helps in saving time and it also gives more time when something bad happens (Crenshaw, 2020). 1

3. Discuss Sam’s career progress and is he now promotable? Sam is a man with hard-work and has management skills. He had been progressing rapidly through many staff positions, and he was recently promoted to the assistant personal manager. He had an ability to form a good team and he was one of the reasons for the successful organization of the Eastern plant. So, he is the right candidate to promote, but after giving training regarding time management. Sam’s main problem in this case was poor time management. If he gets training, practice and feedback on time management then he can become one of the best assets of the company.

An effective control is to have a separation of duties whenever employees handle money let's take an example if a staff reviews invoices and authorize this payment then a second employee should write and send the check and yet another employee should reconcile the bank statement Internal controls are important. they are helpful to detect and to discourage employee front. To control employees fraud is to Institute careful hiring practices although this approach is less 2
