Multiple Ways of Knowledge Demonstration Having viewed the video “How Thinking Works” by Dr. Derek Cabrera I found it to be relatively useful. One thing that was very useful about this video is that he broke things down into hot to make things work using “DSRP: Distinctions, Systems, Relationships, and Perspectives”. Often in many videos these types of subjects are discussed, but no example is given like the presenter in the video gave. Often when it comes to thinking skills things are often left out or examples are not really presented much when going over them. The professor within the movie uses various examples such as his own child and Legos to further help the viewer understand what he has to say when it comes to the subject being presented. After viewing such a video, I have found that this is not only helpful but it is great when it comes to understanding how one could teach the students a way to teach how they must thing when it not only comes to English class but various other classes as well. When it comes to various thinking skills and knowledge, English class has various ways that students can show this. Two examples of doing so could be through essay writing and various uses of technology such as PowerPoint presentations. To start off, writing is a key aspect to the English Language Arts classroom. So, when it comes to students demonstrating their knowledge a paper gives them the opportunity to write about what they have learned in a means to further show the teacher. That being said, using something like a PowerPoint presentation

gives the students even more of a chance because it allows them to further their creativity in a means to demonstrate to the teacher what they have learned ad already know. So, when it comes to a teacher providing feedback one example is making sure that instructions are clearly for say the PowerPoint presentation. With proper instructions given, feedback is easier to give as there is a list of criteria that needs to be met. Having gone to various schools, teachers utilized various assessment methods which one happened to be a PowerPoint presentation. This allows the students creativity to be assessed, but it is not just that. Information used for the assignment is what also is looked over. Having learned the content being taught, it not only observes whether the students can find sources pertaining to them, it shows by content provided whether they have been paying attention. It also tests the student writing abilities and where each of them stands whether they need more help or are at the appropriate level for said grade. This gives the teacher a chance to be able to assist those students who need further help whether it is in reading or writing. For example, if each student seems to have trouble formulating presenters’ notes this gives the teacher the chance to work more on their writing. It allows the teacher to instruct the students on how to break down information and determine the main idea that they will use for that specific slide. All in all, these strategies have a place in not just English but every other class as well.
