Title: How to Apply and Remove Contacts Name: Keaton Rodriguez Organizational Pattern: Chronological General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: By the end of my speech the audience should know how to properly take out and put in contacts. Central Idea: Today, I am going to show you how to take out and put in contacts using a mirror, contact case and contact solution. Introduction: Have you ever had to wear glasses when you are running or going from a cold environment to a hot environment? Well if you have not it is no fun. Today I will show you how to properly put in and take out contacts. I have been wearing contacts since the sixth grade, so it is like a second nature. By the end of this speech, you will know how to properly take out and put in contacts using the right solution and technique. Transition: Let’s begin with the first step, preparing to put in your contacts. I.

First, you must wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. a. It is important that you air dry your hands to avoid anything getting on your hands. i. Make sure you have no leftover residues on your hands. b. Get a mirror that you can use to put in your contacts. i. Any mirror will work, but magnifying mirrors are best. c. Get your contact case and contact solution ready. i. Any contact case will work, but they only last for 1 month max before you should get a new one. ii. Any brand of contact solution is good: Bio True, Pure Moist, Clear Care.

Transition: Now that I have informed you about getting ready to put your contacts in, let’s talk about how to put them in. II.

The second step is putting the contact in your eye. a. To put in the contact, you must open the contact case. i. Read the contact case from right to left, or vice versa. ii. Open the right or left side of the case depending on what one your putting in your eye. b. Pick up the contact for your right eye out of the right side of the contact case. i. Use your thumb and pointer finger to grab the contact. ii. Hold the contact up to the light to make sure there is nothing on it. iii. Set contact on pointer finger to where it looks like a bowl. c. Now that you have the contact sitting on your pointer finger like a bowl add solution to it. i. Add one drop of contact solution to the middle of the contact bowl. ii. Look in the mirror and use your other hand to widen your eye lids. iii. Insert the contact into your right eye.

iv. Repeat these same steps for your left eye. Transition: After you have worn your contact for a full day and are about to go to bed, it is time to take them out. III. The final step is knowing how to properly take out your contacts. a. First you will repeat all of the steps from step one. i. Make sure your hands are thoroughly washed and you have all your supplies. ii. Widen your eye with your thumb and pointer finger. iii. Use other hand to pinch contact out of eye. b. Depending on your brand of contacts, Daily’s or Night and day, will depend on what you do with the contact. i. For a daily contact you dispose of the contact after removal. ii. For Night and Day contacts, you will place the contact in the clean contact case with fresh contact solution c. Now that the contact is removed and put in fresh solution or disposed, you can go to bed. Conclusion: Now that you have been informed of how to properly put in and take out contacts, if you are wanting to stop wearing glasses there is no reason you should be nervous to try out contacts. You may find that you like wearing contacts better than glasses. You may even find that contacts are more convenient and more suitable for you. Bibliography...
