Description

1. It is usually considered better to adopt an innovative HRM model, since it helps the employees to feel more comfortable, valued and recognized in their work. They are seen as individuals and not as a faceless and nameless crowd. However, it would have to depend on the job. For unskilled labor, such as a convenience store clerk, a traditional HRM model may be better since it is an unskilled job. The employees are going to be paid near minimum wage and while it is possible that some of them wish to stay in the job and participate in its flourishing, it is probably not a majority. It is, thus, not necessarily bad to view the employees as a homogeneous group as long as good work conditions are still granted to them. 2. Staffing comprises four steps, planning, recruitment, selection and orientation. The planning process involves verifying your actual resources, first quantitatively, and then qualitatively, before starting the job analysis and the recruitment process. You will then know how many people and what competencies are needed. You must therefore make sure of wherever you have a surplus or a shortage of workers, and adjust your plan depending on this information. If you have a surplus for example, it may be a good idea to proceed to some early retirements, if you have a shortage, on the other hand, it may be better to try to delay retirement. Once this step is complete, you must proceed to a job analysis that will enable you to produce a job description. You must then decide the necessary competencies and establish the selection criteria. After all of this is complete, you can proceed to the recruitment. 3. Give me an example of a situation where you had to appropriately deal for an incredibly stressful situation and what you did to handle it. 4. Tell me about a time where you had to work with a team in order to achieve a common goal. How did it go ? 5. Tool 1 : An interview containing role play, behavioral and scenario questions. It is important to be able to directly assess whether the candidate would be good at handling the situations they will be facing in this job, these questions will help determine that. Tool 2: a performance test, including an English test, to make sure that the employee will be capable of adequately communicating with the store's client. It is especially important since customer service is a big part of the job of a convenience store clerk. 6. 1. Age is ground for discrimination according to the charter of human rights, so you shouldn't discriminate based on this for a position of convenience store clerk unless the candidate is too young to be legally allowed to work, or needs to be major for a specific reason to fulfill parts of the jobs, like selling alcohol and lottery for example. 1. No, retail is under federal jurisdiction even if the stores are located in many different places. The convenience store business doesn't concern national security or image, therefore, it is not under federal jurisdiction. 2. You have to pay your employees their base salary even if they are still in training according to the Labor Standards Act....
