Description

Welcome to Nursing 4685 Capstone, your last RN to BSN Nursing Course! I am Tammy Eades, your faculty for this course. This course is designed as a reflection and synthesis of your nursing practice and your degree program learning.

You will review your RN-BSN journey including analyzing changes in your self-image, attitudes, goals, perceptions, and practices. You will review your Philosophy of Nursing paper you wrote in the Transition to Professional Nursing course and reflect on how your philosophy may have changed or strengthened. You will use the skills you learned in Research to review, critique, and summarize articles including citing and referencing appropriately using APA format.

Capstone is a platform in which the RN’s professional career moves toward an advanced role by utilizing all of the program content. The advanced roles addressed in Capstone are nursing administration, nursing education, and the nurse practitioner. Your Capstone project will address one of those 3 areas. You will identify a specific issue, research it, ask some questions, and make recommendations for resolution and dissemination.

The Questions you will ask are: 1. How do we know this is a problem or issue? 2. Who needs the information about the problem or issue? 3. What are possible solutions? 4. How will dissemination of this researched information impact behavior? You will answer those and other questions as you gather information and present your Capstone project.

This course is designed to stretch your thinking toward how your practice will be impacted as a result of you obtaining your BSN degree. We will challenge you to project your career goals for 1 year from now, 5 years, and finally 10 years into the future. Where do you see yourself? What do you see yourself doing? How will you have contributed to the profession of nursing?

And, finally, a Synthesis Paper. This paper will ask you to reflect on this course and others to summarize your transition to professional nursing. You will be asked to use the reflections for each module as you address the various sections of the paper that will take you back to the program course and ask you to discuss how you have used that information in your current practice. Let’s get started! Enjoy the course and we will see you later...
