Raina INC.

NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 11, 2013

Raina Announces Multi-Million Dollar Pollution-Abatement Program BLACKROCK, IOWA – On April 11, 2013, Leslie Sludge manager of Raina’s Blackrock plant stood before the City Council to speak on the company’s current pollution situation. Raina Inc is announcing their new $2 million-dollar pollution-abatement program focused around the correction of the clean air and water concerns. The program will be slated to start at the beginning of October with Raina projecting positive results within the first 2 years. Sludge’s announcement of the $2 million-dollar upgrade comes after the initial $5.3 milliondollars Raina has already committed to their pollution clean-up. In addition to Raina’s commitment of $2 million dollars, the company will also be adding an additional 100 employees specifically for their pollution abatement program. Sludge said, “Raina, Inc., had decided to move ahead with this program at this time because of its long-standing responsibility for keeping Blackrock environment clean and in response to growing community concern over achieving the objective”. The bulk of the money will be spent on two globe refractors, which purify waste destined to be deposited in surrounding waterways and four hyperventilation systems, which remove noxious particles dispersed into the air from the smokestacks. Sludge has exciting success in pollution issues as he previously served as manager of Raina’s Fetid Reservoir plant in Fetid Reservoir, New Hampshire. In two years as manager of Fetid Reservoir, Sludge was able to convert it from one of the most pollutant-laden plants in the system to the cleanest, as judged by the Environmental Protection Agency. In continuing with their leading-edge pollution abatement programs, Raina takes public health and safety under the highest most importance. Raina’s Blackrock plant was built in 1900 and is currently the oldest plant in Blackrock Iowa. The plant covers 14 acres of land and is the largest supplier of plate glass and commercial panes in the country. Raina employs over 10,000 workers which is the largest single employer in Blackrock. Raina’s Blackrock plant started as a converted garage, manufacturing plate glass with just 13 employees at that time. Five years Raina received the Presidential Award from the Environmental Protection Agency in regard to the company’s ‘concern for pollutionabatement’. – END –

Points List Not Used

3.) I left this information out as it is not a good sign. Especially because it is a negative and goes against what we were trying to announce. (Our new program) 4.) This portrays a negative outlook on the company and the goals of the company. This was needed to be left out as it would have only had a negative draw on the release.

8.) It wouldn’t be good if we showed that the company absolutely knew this was an issue, yet we still wanted to delay it. Until we received too many complaints and then we changed our mind. This wouldn’t have looked good in our release.

11.) Again, this study has a negative look at our pollution. We don’t want to have this written in our release as again we are trying to portray our positive efforts. 13.) This isn’t necessarily important information that needed to be inserted in this release. It was important that we didn’t over crowd the release with information that isn’t needed and take away from the importance of our message. 14.) Technically this was used in our release, but this is the same information as point #5. 16.) This point has no relevancy to our release and is not needed. 17.) Same as point 16, this point has no relevancy to our release and is not needed. 20.) Although important information for us to know, this again is a negative thing and something we would not want to add into our news release. 21.) Same as point #20. This isn’t information you want to put into a news release. 22.) This information is not needed for this release and unnecessary 23.) This is great news for the company, although it is not relevant to this situation. 26.) Information that was not needed to be displayed in this release as it also did not have a good look for the company. 27). Same as point 26. This isn’t a good thing and wouldn’t like favourable for the company.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

I really enjoyed writing this news release. I was admittedly timid at the start as it seemed to be quite the task. After reading through the assignment and starting to gather my information I started to feel much more confident. This was a great way to garner a better understanding of what it is like to write a news release. This being the first time I have written a news release I feel very confident in the product that I produced, and I know I would only produce stronger documents with more practice. It was nice to have about 2 weeks to do it as it gave me time to initially gather my ideas and thought and then sit on them for a couple days while deciding what information to use and what should be left out....
