Course Description  The research process and its contributions to professional nursing practice are explored.  The skills related to reading published research findings with understanding, and using best evidence as the basis for professional nursing practice are developed. Required Textbooks: E-Books  Houser, J. (2018). Nursing Research: Reading, Using, and Creating Evidence (4th ed.). Sudbury, MA: Jones and Bartlett.  American Psychological Association. (2010). Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, DC: Author. Provides individualized comprehensive care based on theories and principles of nursing and related disciplines to individuals, families, aggregates and communities, from entry to the healthcare system through long-term planning. 2. Demonstrates leadership and collaboration with consumers and other healthcare providers in providing care and/or delegating responsibilities for health promotion, illness prevention, health restoration, health maintenance and rehabilitative activities. 3. Communicates effectively with patient populations and other healthcare providers in managing the healthcare of individuals, families, aggregates and communities. 4. Integrates clinical judgment in professional decision making and implementation of the nursing process. 5. Demonstrates responsibility for continued personal and professional development through enrollment in graduate education, continuing education degree programs, professional reading and participation in professional organizations and community service. 6. Implements professional nursing standards by practicing within the legal definitions of nursing practice and acts in accordance with the nursing code of ethics and American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of practice. 7. Practices in established professional roles consistent with entry-level BSN graduates to provide cost-effective, quality healthcare to consumers in structured and unstructured settings. 8. Incorporates evidence-based practice in the provision of professional nursing care to individuals, families, aggregates and communities.

2 Course Outcomes  Chamberlain College of Nursing courses are built to align course content with specific Course Outcomes (COs).  The COs define the learning objectives that the student will be required to comprehend and demonstrate by course completion.  Unit outcomes provide further detail to support learner achievement of specific COs and are listed within each unit under the introduction. Comprehensive Examination: 50 Points  May use PowerPoint slides with notes + Textbook ONLY  25 Questions (Multiple choice) x 2 points for each question = 50 points  Apply Late Exam Policy as stated in Student Handbook and Course Syllabus. Class Activity/Participation: 30 Points  Class activity/participation is an essential requirement of this course.  Class activity #1: Independent Study: Complete and submit Critical Points Form at 11:59 PM, Sunday, September 8, in CP Form CANVAS  Class activity #2 and #3 will be done at the End of each lecture in class ONLY  You will receive 10 points for each class activity/participation as designated.  Student will FORFEIT the missed class activity due to absence or tardiness of class on the day of scheduled class activity/participation. There is NO make-up class activity for any missed activity REGARDLESS of your reason for absence/tardiness (i.e.. baby sitter issues, doctor’s appointment, minor surgery/medical procedure, leave class early, personal and/or family issues, accident, car problem, working schedule, sickness with or without physician notes, child illness…..etc.) ASSIGNMENTS  Refers to Each Assignment Guidelines in FILES in CANVAS.  Each assignment must be submitted in designated Assignment Item in CANVAS on designated date and time based on CLASS SCHEDULE (NOT CANVAS DATE).  Late Assignment Submission Policy will be applied as stated in Student Handbook and Policy.

CHAMBERLAIN POLICY Class Attendance Regular attendance of the full class time and consistent participation within the classroom facilitate the achievement of course outcomes set forth in the course syllabi. Any student who arrives to class 15 minutes or more late or leaves class earlier than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled end of class time will be marked as absent within the documentation system regardless of reason. Please refer to the Academic Catalog for further information on the full attendance policy.

Plagiarism “Turnitin” Percentage  Less than 25 percentage: Acceptable percentage.  Turnitin Draft Submission Box  Submit your draft of written paper into Turnitin Draft Submission Box to check your percentage as many times as needed before you submit your final paper to designated Unit.  If your Final paper has 25% or higher percentage, you must revise/modify your paper contents BEFORE you submit your paper due date and time.  If your Final paper has 25% or higher percentage AT/AFTER you submit your final paper due date and time, Academic Integrity Violation Procedures will be initiated. Academic Integrity Violation Procedures  Academic Integrity Violation letter will be sent to student  Assignment Grade will be 0 point  The violation case will be reviewed and a further sanction will be determined by the Administrators. Late Assignment Submission

4  Any paper submitted after specifically designated time and date is considered late submission even if you are in the lecture for your designated section.  10% of the total possible points will be deducted for each day late.  Assignment will be accepted with penalty as described (10% deduction for each day late), up to a maximum of 3 days late including weekend and holiday.  After 3 days late, Zero point will be given for the assignment. Late Exam Policy  A student who does NOT notify the faculty and does NOT show up for an examination will receive 0 points.  If a student is NOT able to take the exam either early or on the scheduled Time and Day for any reason, 5% will be subtracted from the possible total exam score for each day late.     

First day late: 5% off: if the exam is taken within the first day (1-23 hours late) 2nd day late: 10% off: if the exam is taken after the 1st day (24-47 hours) 3rd day late: 15% off: if the exam is taken after the 2nd day (48-71 hours) 4th day late: 20% off: if the exam is taken after the 3rd day (72-95 hours) Students who do NOT take their exam by Day 5 will receive 0 points for the exam.

*** For Example: If a student is NOT able to take the exam either early or on the scheduled Time and Day, and if the possible total exam score is 50 points and the student’s test score is 40 points, student will receive: Day 1: 50 x 0.05 = 2.5 points: 40-2.5 = 37.5 points Day 2: 50 x 0.10 = 5 points: 40-5 = 35 points Day 3: 50 x 0.15 = 7.5 points: 40-7.5 = 32.5 points Day 4: 50 x 0.20 = 10 points: 40-10 points = 30 points Day 5: 0 points for Exam grade...
